someone brought up RFK's name and how he's trying to remove high fructose corn syrup from foods. I didn't comment on the merits of that idea, just leaned over and said 'RFK is a wing nut' and got an earful for the next 10 minutes about the MMR vaccine and how getting vaccinated caused her diabetes and ...............wow. She's convinced Big Pharma is the cause of all her problems. That may be true but I'm asking the hive mind to help me find evidence showing the effectiveness of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) shot. She went on and on about that.
Any places you can point me to?
Thanks.
PS- When our paths cross next I will make amends for butting into her conversation. She was HOT!

(26,343 posts)Never about taking responsibility, logic or statistical good sense.
It's always SOMEONE ELSE'S FAULT.
It's always "WHAT ABOUT" that one outlier that is then applied to an entire population. (one vaccine reaction, one Willie Horton ....)
And that is the nature of the cult. It plays upon key cognitive biases. (1), projecting one's failures, weaknesses and fears onto another, and substituting "don't make me think" groupthink distortions. (okay, lies).
This is deeply rooted in their mental operating system, and since the other key failure is the biggie: DENIAL, they are immune to logic, if not disease.
Best to ignore if you can. Because whatever you say will be labeled lies by the denial machine. Cults live by contradiction and root out logic and truth.
