MI-07: Brink (D) nabs MEA endorsement in competitive Michigan congressional race

Lansing — The Michigan Education Association on Monday announced its endorsement of former U.S. Ambassador Bridget Brink in her bid to flip a highly competitive mid-Michigan congressional district currently held by Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett.

Brink, a former ambassador to Ukraine under President Joe Biden, is running in the 7th District Democratic primary against former Navy SEAL and White House aide Matt Maasdam and Democratic activist William Lawrence.

The competitive congressional district is anchored in Lansing and includes all of Ingham, Clinton, Shiawassee and Livingston counties, as well as parts of Genesee, Oakland and Eaton counties. The swing district includes East Lansing, where the MEA is headquartered and where Michigan State University's campus is located.

Brink, whose mother was an MEA educator, said she was "thrilled" by the endorsement.
