A federal judge has cornered the Justice Department for withholding files on FBI interviews with the woman who accused Donald Trump of sexually assaulting her when she was 13.
U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan ordered acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to release unredacted versions of several Jeffrey Epstein files, or explain why the DOJ should be allowed to keep them secret, as he sided with investigative journalist Katie Phang, who had accused Blanche of violating the Epstein Files Transparency Act. He gave the government until July 2 to comply.
Sullivan's decision covers FBI notes from interviews with a woman who claimed that Epstein introduced her to Trump in 1984, when she was about 13 years old, and that Trump forced her to perform a sexual act on him. Trump has denied the allegation.
The South Carolina woman's allegations were revealed in documents released as part of the DOJ's Epstein files dump, including redacted FBI documents summarizing the interviews, but The Post and Courier reports that dozens of pages on the interviews have yet to be released.

(78,248 posts)More than one person who was to give testimony about Trumps have not made it to court because they
died or went missing. Example: Ivana Trump.
This was all part of an international and multi generational criminal enterprise.

The complete Epstein files like the unredacted Mueller Report will never see the late
of day. Trump showed have arrested in the 1980s for laundering Russian Mob money
through his real estate
. and for some reason our law enforcement and intelligence
people knew all about that but did nothing.

(1,400 posts)by July 2. They had asked for a delay in their responsive briefs of 60 days if the court was to rule in Katie's favor. The judge was not having it. He said produce by July 2 or give the court a reason why. Blanche is really on the hot seat.

(334 posts)to threadjack this post, nor do I intend in any way to take laser-like focus off the heinous acts Trump vey likely committed. But insofar as I can walk and chew gum at the same time, can anyone offer me any credible explanation for why Presidents Biden and Obama didn't find someway to go after this dude? Were they just concerned it would look too political? I know part of the Epstein file was sealed for some time, but the limits of that are murky to me. I just think that these leaders must have known what an absolute psychopath Trump was/is and arguably should have found a way to prevent his rise to power. And to be clear, I'm NOT saying "Blame Biden" or "Blame Obama". On the contrary, I expect there were very good reasons why these decent and intelligent leaders weren't more active in trying to prevent Trump's candidacy. I'd love to have any ideas why (or maybe they were very much behind the scenes?).
The same goes for Trump's connection to Putin. Hillary tried so hard to warn us (but her emails . . . .
). But why not just publish the entire Mueller Report - unredacted or the Steele Dossier - unredacted?

(69,967 posts)I don't think the Obama administration knew about them, but I'm hazy on the timing there.
The FBI is notoriously right wing so even during Democratic administrations there could be coverups and deals made that the Attorney General might not know about.
Presidents aren't supposed to interfere with the DOJ.
