Thank you Activist Headquarters!
Over the years, I'd tried to participate in this activism forum, but there were basically no posts for months and months. I made a few posts that sat there with no response. Over time, I'd basically forgotten about it. I'm glad I finally checked back today and see something happening! Still, with all of the members DU has, the participation here should be far greater. I'll be here more now.
I honestly believe many of us have let the tech bros & other kleptocrats steal our country simply by entertaining us and lulling us into feeling that making snarky remarks or even well-reasoned arguments online is enough to make a real difference.
I made an OP this morning begging DUers to act. I provided tools that make it easier for us to contacts our reps and a link to the fifty-fifty-one site that's planning protest rallies. The post was seen by 1948 DUers and currently has just 41 recs. A few of the very scant number of replies basically say, "Why bother?"
My disappointment is not because it's my post. It's the utter lack of willingness to even recommend the idea that we at least TRY to make our outrage heard by people in power.
However, surely this forum could do more than any one post to spur action if enough DUers were aware of it. I'll be you many don't even realize it exists. It would be fantastic if EarlG would advertise it.
I could never understand why the head guys didn't seem see the potential of the Activist Headquarters and boost it to the Level of Latest Discussions. I mean, we all know damn well that things are bad and of course keeping up with what's going on is vital, but then we need to act! I know that's a far stretch since it never occurred to the leadership here to put such a strong focus on activism. But at least they could increase awareness and encourage participation.
If you guys think asking EarlG to do something like this is worth a try, how should we go about making the request? I guess, but it seems a concerted effort would be far more likely to succeed.
