Michael Flynn says Mar-a-Lago staff should be subjected to polygraph tests to catch Trump cabinet pick 'leaker'

Source: The Independent

Tuesday 12 November 2024 21:48 GMT

Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn is calling for Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago staff to be subjected to polygraph tests after a series of press reports about the incoming president’s cabinet picks. Flynn, who briefly served in the Trump administration, made the remarks on X/Twitter on Tuesday in response to a tweet by controversial far-right activist Laura Loomer.

“It would be very easy to catch someone doing this. Give everyone that is there a one question poly (this is very easy to do). Ask them one question, “have you communicated with any media outlets in the past week?” You’ll see the leaks disappear,” Flynn said in response to a tweet by Loomer, a hard-right conspiracy theorist who traveled with Trump on the campaign trail.

On Monday, The New York Times reported that Trump had nominated Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio to serve as his secretary of state. CNN reported that he’d also selected South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to serve as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Both of the outlets cited unnamed sources familiar with the president’s thinking.

Reacting to news of the apparent leaks, Loomer wrote on X: “Why are people inside Mar-a-Lago leaking Trump’s possible cabinet picks to the media? Not a good sign that things are being leaked already. People should be respecting President Trump’s privacy and the privacy of the transition team.”

Well, not efficient unless you're W or Cheney. But more fun for MAGAts. And since a lot of his staff is Hispanic, he can deport them afterwards.

If they record the torture sessions Trump can rewind it and watch it over and over again. Like he did with his attack on the Capitol.

Two, polygraphs do not detect deception.

It's pseudoscience used by cops. That's it.

She refused to take it and the property in question, magically turned up.
The tech that gave me the test asked the most embarrassing question to begin the session. I answered them. He explained to me that 90% of those that take the test confessed after being asked those questions. I just focused on my breathing and the needle never moved. He said I passed, but he didn’t believe me. He worked for the police.
Just goes to show.

Most psychologists and other scientists agree that there is little basis for the validity of polygraph tests.

A particular problem is that polygraph research has not separated placebo-like effects (the subject's belief in the efficacy of the procedure) from the actual relationship between deception and their physiological responses. One reason that polygraph tests may appear to be accurate is that subjects who believe that the test works and that they can be detected may confess or will be very anxious when questioned. If this view is correct, the lie detector might be better called a fear detector.

Without a better theoretical understanding of the mechanisms by which deception functions, however, development of a lie detection technology seems highly problematic. For now, although the idea of a lie detector may be comforting, the most practical advice is to remain skeptical about any conclusion wrung from a polygraph.

These people want nothing to do with truth. If they were hooked up they would probably start the lie detector on fire.

The guy was just practicing. So, it was all just normal questions like do you have curly hair? Do you eat bread?

I failed miserably. Seems I was nervous and everything I said came out as a lie. Also the straps and clips weren't tight enough. He kept readjusting them.

Changes in breathing, heart rate, skin conductivity don't have a fucking thing to do with deception. You could wire a person up and ask them where they were born, let's say they say "Mars". None of those measures will change, because the entire polygraph control question technique is a fraud.

It's basically a interrogation mind-fuck technique used by cops. If it "works" it's because people believe it works

My in-laws were in the Kassel area as children, heavily bombed on account of heavy industry and the object of house to house combat and armored counterattacks in April of 1945. His legs were badly burned in a bombing raid, and he's still traumatized by what he saw in the hospital.

They came to New York in the late 50s.

Such horror.
