New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer launched his campaign for governor on Friday, vowing to lower taxes and bring more jobs to the state. As governor, I will lower taxes and lower costs and help you and your family get ahead. Now, Ill do it while protecting the values we believe in as Democrats, Gottheimer said Friday at a campaign launch event at a diner in South Hackensack, N.J.
Life in the Garden State has become too expensive and driven out families and businesses, he said, vowing to reverse that trend. My pride in Jersey is shared by millions, Gottheimer said. But heres the thing, life in Jersey has become too damn expensive. We pay too much in taxes and too much just to live. Its driving out job-creating businesses and families and undermining our quality of life.
Gottheimer, who was elected to a fifth term representing New Jerseys 5th District last week, is seeking to succeed Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy, who is term limited.
Since joining the House in 2017, Gottheimer has led the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus and has been in the middle of major legislative negotiations on Capitol Hill, including pandemic relief, budget issues and transportation infrastructure. When Democrats were in the majority, he was regularly a thorn in the side of the partys progressive wing.

(3,311 posts)...especially coming from a Democrat. It is the rawest issue in this state. Spiller's relentless mail campaign has generated name recognition. Others are entering the fray. This will be an interesting race to watch.

(33,514 posts)Here is who came to HC for meet and greets with the Democratic Committee DURING the Presidential election:
Gottheimer - Flemington Diner
Sweeney - A golf outing and fancy schmancy dinner.
Fulop - Cancelled two days before due to low turnout commitment: Lone Eagle
Spiller spent money GOTV Mailers for Harris, Kim, and Altman in the 7th District.
He's not the party boss favorite in Hunterdon County - so he's mine. BTW - The party bosses who took over in HC in June -
Failed epically out here. The mea culpa letter from Malinowski last week was pathetic. I hope my fellow Democratic Committee members who voted against people who knew what they were doing are happy with themselves.
Two council pick ups in Central Hunterdon towns. The only winners were the county seat that maintained its 100% Democratic Party Council. We did it in Flemington - because we know what we are doing.
