DNA evidence will be allowed in Bryan Kohberger trial

BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) - In a striking victory for the Prosecution, Ada County Judge Steven Hippler ruled against attorneys for University of Idaho murder suspect, Bryan Kohberger, attempts to suppress and dismiss key evidence in the upcoming trial.

Hippler's rulings, made in four separate opinions, followed motions by Kohberger's attorneys to omit DNA evidence, cell phone data, and other evidence used to obtain a warrant to search Kohberger's person and make the arrest at the 30-year-old Pennslyvania home.

The main point of the defense's argument was that Kohberger's rights were violated when DNA was obtained from the crime scene and then analyzed using investigative genetic genealogy (IGG).

Seems like it is really dragging for a non-Federal court trial, but, maybe not.

He learned well from Trump: Delay,delay,delay... and then delay some more and again. This paid off handsomely for Trump, aided and abetted by Garland and other Federalist fellow travelers.

The present court system fosters and encourages the delay tactic. Call it "gaming the system" or whatever, but it sure does work. And at little cost to the bad guys, great cost to society.

There is no such thing as a "speedy trial". Reforms are badly needed.

4. Why is allowing DNA evidence a "striking victory"? Seems like DNA evidence is commonly allowed by the court.

5. The cops pulled DNA evidence from the trash of a relative of Kohlberger without a warrant.

I'm guessing that the defense challenged this and the accuracy of a familial DNA probable match.

7. That's legal and DNA evidence is always taken from the suspect after they've been arrested.

They've been doing this for decades. Of course not with familial DNA, but the old DNA in the garbage has been done for decades. However, they are required to get an actual sample from the suspect once they've been arrested.

6. I've been favorably impressed with ABC Evening News with David Muir lately.

This is tangential, but we watched the powerful coverage of Trump's lying about Zelenskyy and asserting that Zelenskyy should never have started the war with Russia. They were forceful and refuted the lie. We switched to NBC and they downplayed it. We couldn't get to the same topic on CBS, so don't know how they covered it.
