Delta offering $30,000 to passengers who were on plane that crash-landed in Toronto

Source: NBC News

Delta Air Lines is offering passengers who were on the Toronto-bound flight that crash-landed and flipped upside down $30,000 apiece. It was not immediately clear how passengers can claim their money, but if all 76 passengers take Delta up on its offer, it will have to fork over nearly $2.3 million in total.

Delta Care Team representatives are telling customers that the offer "has no strings attached and does not affect rights," a Delta spokesperson said.

Delta Flight 4819, which was arriving at Toronto Pearson International Airport from Minneapolis, burst into flames upon landing and flipped upside down on the runway at around 2:15 p.m. Monday.

The CRJ-900 was carrying 76 passengers and four crew members who were left dangling from their seat belts when the smoking plane came to a stop.

I've seen cases where the victim got over $100k for verbal harassment. Someone got over a million when her coffee was too hot and she spilled it.

I haven't heard anything about the cause of the crash other than bad weather.

It looks to me like the right landing gear collapsed when it touched down.

Not sure (if that was even the case) if that was due to being off the runway or mechanical failure.

Any thoughts?

Is to give the national authority time to conduct the investigation (in this case Transport Canada assisted by NTSB, other players will probably include Bombardier and Delta). That being said, I would focus on the Environment (weather), Hardware (gear or flap actuator failure) and Liveware (people, crew resource management, threat and error management and possibly fuel management).

But then again, you knew I was going to insert the SHELL model here.

maintenance, airline, I would say $100K is fair. I'd wait for the investigation. Delta is seeking a bargain.
