President Donald Trump and his team have had success in driving down egg prices, but achieving this campaign promise largely has been drowned out by their aggressive push to expand executive authority, target political rivals and dismantle certain government agencies.
Some congressional Democrats, sensing a politically weakened president and Republican Party, have been increasingly vocal about the administrations economic and government-cutting policies. On the latter, Trump acknowledged Monday during a Cabinet meeting that he has no idea how it plays out in the public.
Weve done a lot of cutting.
But its something that has to be done, the president said. The country was riddled with fat. Trump on Monday highlighted his administrations focus on bringing down egg prices. If you look at when I came in after one week, they were screaming at me about eggs, he said. Eggs had nothing to do with me, but they were through the roof, and you couldnt get them down.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on Friday touted the administrations agreements with Turkey and South Korea to ramp up their egg exports to the United States, adding that she was talking to other countries as well. Those negotiations could lead to hundreds of millions of eggs for the short term, she told reporters outside the White House. Egg imports from Brazil also have increased since Trump returned to office, Reuters reported Monday.

(4,548 posts)and I was going to pick-up a dozen eggs until I saw the price. Depending on the brand and type of egg (organic, grass feed, etc.) the prices ranged from $6.00 a dozen to over $7.00 a dozen. The prices are not going down in my area. They appear to be going up, I'll update in the next week or so. What the hell are they talking about eggs prices dropping? Where? Timbuktu?

(13,731 posts)I was just in the grocery store tonight and while the shelves looked fuller, the prices were still very high. The bird flu had alot to do with prices and distribution. That has been resolved (bird flu) for the most part from what we're hearing, but Trump had nothing to do with that. He'll try to take credit for anything...

(149,911 posts)Meanwhile the RETAILERS are STILL gouging the customers.
We see the same thing with gasoline prices. Crude oil prices drop for the gasoline refiners. Wholesale gasoline from those refiners to distributors/retail stations finally drop. Retail gas stations then take a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGG time to finally drop their prices for the customers.

(16,441 posts)Really rollcall? What "evidence" do you have of this "some success" you publish right up front In your Donnie Dipshit asskissing story.
Eggs are still about $6 - $7 a dozen for the cheapest brand. Although that's slightly better than $6.75 - $7.75 a dozen last month, let me tell you why they are slightly less expensive.
IT HAS FUCKING NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING DONNIE DIPSHIT HAS DONE!!!!!!!!
The reason egg prices are slightly below the MOST EXPENSIVE THEY'VE EVER BEEN IN HISTORY is because people like Mrs. Max and I HAVE STOPPED FUCKING BUYING THEM!

(103 posts)I bought eggs last Sunday, paying $5.99 for one dozen large white eggs.
The extra large eggs were $6.99 and the jumbo eggs, which I prefer, were $7.99.
One dozen brown eggs, "free range eggs" and "organic" eggs were all selling for $7.99 or $8.99 a dozen.
I'm not seeing any real price reductions for eggs in West Central Ohio (Dayton regional area).

(2,189 posts)The farmers market near our house gets about 15 dozen at a time. We order 2 dozen and pay $4.00 per dozen. If you can get them through local sourcing that is great.
We are up in NE Ohio not too far from Kent.
