Tulsi Gabbard's Head Did Exorcist-Spin Over DoD Signal Leak
Nothing was classified. Wait, I don't know. I am but what are you?

By John Amato — March 25, 2025

Sen. Angus King had Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard's head spinning in quick fashion after she at first claimed no classified intelligence was contained in the group chat and then immediately said she had no knowledge of the classifications.

KING: The secretary put into this group text a detailed operation plan, including targets, the weapons we were going to be using, attack sequences, and timing.

And yet you've testified that nothing in that chain was classified. Wouldn't that be classified? What if that had been made public that morning before the attack took place?

GABBARD: Senator, I can attest to the fact that there were no classified or intelligence equities that were included in that chat group at any time.

KING: So the attack sequencing and timing and weapons and targets, you don't consider to should have been classified?

GABBARD:I defer to the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council on that question.

KING: Well you're the head of the intelligence community. You're supposed to know about classifications..................

The utter stupidity of Gabbard is beyond the pale.

I did not see the Republican chair swear them in, meaning the obvious lies are not perjury as it clearly is.

They don't know how to close.

He had her right where he wanted her. All he had to do is close with one powerful question,

"Let me make sure I understand. As Director of National Intelligence, your testimony is that there was nothing classified in that text stream. In that case, you will have no objection if we obtain that information through our own means and make it public, is that correct?"

He got to that point, but failed to force her to answer the question. She would have screamed "You can't release that information !!!!!" And then we'd be right at the meat of the matter. From there the media would be asking, "If it isn't classified, then why can't the public see it?"

(I bet the committee already has that text stream.)

He said "If that's the case, then please release toe whole text stream ..."

He didn't even give he a chance to respond. He needed to say "Will you commit to releasing that entire text discussion immediately?"

We needed her answer on record. And after she responded with something like "Sir, that is not my decision.", then he could land the hammer with, "Given that your testimony is that there was nothing classified in this discussion among public servants accountable to the people, then you will have no objection if this committee releases that information, should it come into our possession, is that correct?"

Yesterday, we asked officials across the Trump administration if they objected to us publishing the full texts. In emails to the Central Intelligence Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Security Council, the Department of Defense, and the White House, we wrote, in part: “In light of statements today from multiple administration officials, including before the Senate Intelligence Committee, that the information in the Signal chain about the Houthi strike is not classified, and that it does not contain ‘war plans,’ The Atlantic is considering publishing the entirety of the Signal chain.”

We sent our first request for comment and feedback to national-security officials shortly after noon, and followed up in the evening after most failed to answer.

Late yesterday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emailed a response: “As we have repeatedly stated, there was no classified information transmitted in the group chat. However, as the CIA Director and National Security Advisor have both expressed today, that does not mean we encourage the release of the conversation. This was intended to be a an [sic] internal and private deliberation amongst high-level senior staff and sensitive information was discussed. So for those reason [sic] — yes, we object to the release.” (The Leavitt statement did not address which elements of the texts the White House considered sensitive, or how, more than a week after the initial air strikes, their publication could have bearing on national security.)

A CIA spokesperson asked us to withhold the name of John Ratcliffe’s chief of staff, which Ratcliffe had shared in the Signal chain, because CIA intelligence officers are traditionally not publicly identified. Ratcliffe had testified earlier yesterday that the officer is not undercover and said it was “completely appropriate” to share their name in the Signal conversation. We will continue to withhold the name of the officer. Otherwise, the messages are unredacted.
