Trump Says The U.S. Will 'Go As Far As We Have To Go' To Acquire Greenland
Source: Huff Post
Mar 27, 2025, 10:53 AM EDT
President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the purpose of Vice President JD Vances trip to Greenland is to reinforce the idea that the U.S. has to acquire the semi-autonomous Danish territory, warning that Americans will go as far as we have to go to get control of the island.
In an interview with Vince Coglianese, Trump said a U.S. delegation was traveling to the territory this week to let them know that we need Greenland for international safety and security. We need it, we have to have it, Trump said. Its a island that from a defensive posture and even offensive posture is something we need, especially with the world the way it is.
I hate to put it that way, but were gonna have to have it, he continued. Asked if he thinks the Greenlandic public would be on board with his plans, Trump said he wasnt sure. I dont know, he said. I dont think theyre un-eager, but I think that we have to do it and we have to convince them.
A recent poll shows the overwhelming majority of the people of Greenland oppose joining the U.S. This is not stopping Trump, who separately told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday that the U.S. will go as far as we have to go to get control of Greenland.

(2,888 posts)Why do so many people have difficulty with phraseology of "defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic"?
The Constitution is a concept and a organizational structure. So it can't be burned down like a building. So an "enemy of the Constitution" is is someone who is out to destroy our system of self-goverance .
So while some of these guys may have been serious screw ups and make some major errors, I doubt that many of them reached the level of enemy of the constitution like Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Bush daddy's puppet, and Trump.
I'm sick of the right wing celebrations when they get what they want no matter what it does to the country. Which includes everyone from the voters to the demented bastards orchestrating this shit show.

(22,813 posts)lets not forget that Greenland is a territory of Denmark, and all its citizens are Danish citizens. Denmark is a founding member of NATO and is protected by Article 5 which states than an attack on one NATO member is an attack on all NATO members.
Does Greenland count for the purposes of an Article 5 intervention? According to Article 6:
* on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France 2, on the territory of Turkey or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer;

(49,639 posts)But Cheney was already talking about a long-term war. So, what happened? I saw a priest comment that they were told it would only take a few days, Shock and Awe, because they expected to kill Saddam Hussein during the bombing. And then, when we it was prolonged, there was video of heartland moms cock-blocking Army recruiters saying that their sons at home with them.
So, yes, there was a massive shift in sentiment in the red states and GW Bush had to pull out.
The problem for Trump is that he doesn't have the massive support for an attack against any country he's targeting, so expect something fabricated to occur.

(2 posts)If the US annexes Greenland, it would be the end of NATO. The EU would be deeply divided on defending Denmark, and that could break up the union. Greenland is surely the Achille's heel that would be the easiest way to weaken or destroy the EU and spark a withdrawal of US troops in Europe, long term goals of the Kremlin, and, apparently, Trump. (31 posts)There apparently is no doubt that this "president" is boiling with the wish to invade somebody. Especially a neighbor like his "overseer" is doing. But with the Signalgate event growing, there has been a watch among informed people waiting to see what nonsense thing(s) Trump would blow into a media storm with high volume (but virtually no light). There's the claim on "Truth" Social that Greenland must be taken over, rattling watchers around the world. Also the continuing belligerence toward Canada, and also the bullying claim that the Vances are coming in friendship, but too bad if something happened to your nice country.
He certainly wants to use "his" army, but this is also Vintage Trump deflection. Wait, where's that story about some meeting...wasn't there some illegal meeting or something?
