Trump Abruptly Changes Tune on Canada After Prime Minister's Threat

Source: The New Republic

Donald Trump pulled a 180-degree turn Friday when speaking about Canada, after Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that the country’s relationship with the U.S. was “over.”

In a post on Truth Social Friday morning, Trump dropped his stupid schtick of calling Canada’s leader its “governor,” as part of his ongoing campaign to have it become the “fifty-first state.” Instead, he issued a surprisingly deferential statement about our northern neighbors.

“I just finished speaking with Prime Minister Mark Carney, of Canada. It was an extremely productive call, we agree on many things, and will be meeting immediately after Canada’s upcoming Election to work on elements of Politics, Business, and all other factors that will end up being great for both the United States of America and Canada,” Trump wrote.

On Wednesday, Trump levied a new round of “permanent” 25 percent tariffs on all imported vehicles and autoparts—a move sure to have a large impact in Canada, where many U.S. cars are assembled. Trump had threatened the European Union, warning it against working “with Canada in order to do economic harm” to the U.S. unless it too wanted to be hit with steep tariffs, a blatant attempt to back Canada into a corner.

Really?...Gee, now how could you possibly know that?
Answer: You don't, and are likely projecting your opinion of her on him.

FYI..Melania Trump isn't Russian, she's Slovenian and yes, there is a difference.

With that said, you might consider that if anyone deserves to be designated a "Russian whore" it's Donald Trump, not her.

Our Prime Minister Carney basically told President Dumbass to not even think about trying to fuck with us, as he will regret it for the rest of his life. We are a reasonable, friendly and agreeable sort as a rule...but we will not be bullied, insulted, or ridiculed by some useless shit who thinks he has some sort of intimidating power over those around him. Basically FUCK OFF! he was told politely. He was also read a riot act that told him to shove his tariffs up his ass, that we are maybe willing to reach some sort of an agreement, but that we will not be intimidated or coerced into something that is not good for our country. We Canadians hope that he took heed of what he was told, and will sit down, shut up, and think things through this weekend. His next move will be DEVASTATING for all Americans, their comforts and accustomed lifestyles will be radically altered, their daily lives become quite difficult. Read this and be clear! Your daily lives are being threatened, your families being put unnecessarily into difficult situations, all by this self centered money grubber and his devious cronies. We, the people of Canada, are quite worried and concerned about your personal futures. Your media outlets (CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS) doesn't seem to be aware or fail to report the seriousness of a breakdown in the cross-border business conducted between our two countries. (Fuck FOX) This will DEEPLY affect you all!

Trump simply showed them that the assumptions of friendship that have driven the close relationship are utterly contingent, and a responsible national policy would aim for diversification of economic relations.

I think Trump pushed them too far; while he can probably pull them back from war mode, he can't pull them back from some manner of decoupling.

I would not believe anything Trump says for a second.

Trump as a liar goes way back.

During the antitrust trial of the USFL vs NFL in the 1980s, Pete Rozelle, the commissioner of the NFL, and Donald Trump, a USFL owner, gave conflicting accounts of their meetings.

Trump claimed that Rozelle wanted Trump to buy a NFL team.
Roselle says he never said that.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/sep/11/the-day-donald-trumps-narcissism-killed-the-usfl
,
The NFL attorney decided on the strategy to make Trump the villain.
Trump and some owners talked other owners into directly competing against the NFL.
Some believe to try to force a merger; they failed.

The USFL won the case but only $3 in effective damages.
