EUGENE, Or. — Hours before the first day of the spring term, the University of Oregon reached a tentative agreement with the union representing more than 1,700 faculty members who were prepared to strike on Monday.

In a Facebook post, the United Academics of the University of Oregon announced the agreement at 8 p.m. Sunday.

"The strike will be paused while our Tentative Agreement goes out to UA's full membership for a ratification vote," the union's statement read. "Union members have the ultimate decision-making power over whether we accept this Tentative Agreement."

UO Provost and Senior Vice President Christopher Long said as they wait for union members to ratify the deal, classes and activities "should not be affected as we begin our spring term.
