WASHINGTON Nearly two dozen Democratic lawmakers Monday gathered on the National Mall in honor of Transgender Day of Visibility, pushing back against the Trump administrations policies that harm the trans community.
It came as the Trump administration has moved to block gender-affirming health care for transgender children, bar transgender members from serving in the U.S. military, deny gender markers for passports and ban transgender athletes from womens sports.
Transgender Day of Visibility is dedicated to recognizing the transgender community for their accomplishments and raising awareness of the discrimination that trans people face.
Lawmakers like Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost of Florida slammed President Donald Trump and his administration. He said that Trump is using transgender people as scapegoats.WASHINGTON Nearly two dozen Democratic lawmakers Monday gathered on the National Mall in honor of Transgender Day of Visibility, pushing back against the Trump administrations policies that harm the trans community.

(21 posts)It's inspiring to see so many Democratic lawmakers standing in solidarity with the transgender community on Transgender Day of Visibility. In the face of Trump's relentless attacks, our commitment to equality and justice must be unwavering.
Trump's policies are not just discriminatory; they're downright cruel. Blocking gender-affirming healthcare for transgender children, banning transgender individuals from serving in the military, denying gender markers on passports, and excluding transgender athletes from women's sports these are all calculated attempts to erase transgender people from public life and deny them their basic human rights.
Let's be clear: these policies have real-world consequences. Studies by organizations like the Trevor Project and the Human Rights Campaign consistently demonstrate the devastating impact of discrimination on the mental health and well-being of transgender individuals, particularly youth. For example:
The Trevor Project's 2023 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health found that transgender and nonbinary youth who reported high levels of social acceptance had significantly lower rates of attempting suicide.
The Human Rights Campaign consistently publishes data that shows increased discrimination correlates with increased rates of violence against trans individuals, especially trans women of color.
Trump's use of transgender people as scapegoats is a classic tactic of division and hate. He's trying to distract from his own failures by targeting a vulnerable community. We cannot and will not let him succeed.
The Democratic Party stands firmly on the side of equality and inclusion. We believe that every person deserves to live with dignity and respect, regardless of their gender identity. We will continue to fight for policies that protect transgender rights and ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to thrive.
The rally on the National Mall is a powerful reminder that we are not alone in this fight. We will continue to amplify the voices of the transgender community and hold Trump accountable for his hateful agenda. We will not back down until every transgender person in America has the full and equal protection of the law.
