Marjorie Taylor Greene declines to challenge Jon Ossoff in Georgia Senate race

Source: AP

By JEFF AMY and JONATHAN J. COOPER
Updated 7:55 PM CDT, May 9, 2025

ATLANTA (AP) — U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Friday she won’t challenge Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia in next year’s midterms, delivering relief for some Republicans who worry she’s too divisive to win.

In a lengthy post on the social media platform X, Greene disputed GOP donors and consultants who fear she would turn off the moderate Republicans and independents needed to beat Ossoff. But Greene said she doesn’t want to serve in a Senate that “doesn’t work” and that she said is dominated by lawmakers hostile to grassroots Trump supporters and unwilling to shake up the status quo.

“If I’m going to fight for a team, it will only be a team willing to lay it all on the line to save this country,” she wrote.

Ossoff, a first-term senator, won the seat by a slim margin in a state that has historically been a Republican stronghold but has more recently become a battleground. He is a top target for Republicans looking to expand their narrow Senate majority.

While seemingly strong within her district, she exemplifies a common limitation shared by a few others in Congress as well. It's all an illusion. She appears to be popular with local appeal (and she has a loud and boisterous "fan club" --- most of whom cannot vote for her anyway). But in the end, the reality is that she does not have broader electoral viability.

And Kemp opted out too so they now face 2nd tier candidates. The real baggage the polls are showing is Trump. His efforts to end the war in Ukraine have fizzled and DOGE has been a disaster, even in MAGA eyes.

Why do these MAGA members of Congress like her and Stefanik do anything for Trump?

What is he willing to do for them except support their run for Congress?

It has often been said that loyalty to Trump is a one-way street.

I expect she found out that Trump was not going to support her in the run for Senate.

There were reports in the past where Trump ignored her on the Tarmac.

Phillips writes that white folks in Forsyth County were deeply invested in the notion that "”racial purity” was their inheritance and birthright.” Every conceivable manifestation of white racist terror, including lynchings, was commonplace across the South, but Forsyth County retained the dubious distinction of keeping its whiteness intact for decades upon decades.

The first time I drove through I stopped at a little gas and snack food store along the highway. Although I didn't quite like the way the guy behind the counter looked at me (I had longish hair), I didn't make much of it. However, on the way out, I noticed a rack of a few rows of what I first thought to be tourist information. Oddly, all the information was in black and white. On closer inspection, it was clear why. It was white supremist literature. I never stopped anywhere again in that county. That was long ago, and probably there are lots of decent people in that county, but I am happy never to return. I try to avoid, as best I can, any places in this country where that kind of culture exists.

this subspecies of Neanderthal from NE GA. Could it be evidence that Neanderthals did possess the cognitive abilities of Homo sapiens? Nah. No different than training your dog to stay off the couch. Somebody bribed her with a "biscuit" or threatened her with the rolled up newspaper. Maybe both.

Actually listening as I clean house. I just saw the Billy Christal Character in the tree. His nagging wife was ranting and when he said “Shut up Witch”, all I could think of was MTG. House Dems need it on a loud speaker when she opens that pie hole.
No offense Witches, I love the good ones.
And respect the bad ones, but that one in Congress, hell no. Throw a bucket of water on it. Watch it melt and squeal.

The Republicans will look for someone “un-dangerous” who has a better chance of painting Jon as someone who is. Since Jon is extremely intelligent and highly educated, and Republicans consider both to be nig negatives, I assume that will be their angle of attack.
