Democrats accuse GOP of nuking Senate rules to pass Trump megabill

Source: The Hill

Senate Democrats on Sunday accused Republicans of “going nuclear” to blow up the Senate rules so they can make President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts permanent.

The heated moment on the Senate floor came as Democrats made several parliamentary inquiries of the Senate’s presiding chair to lay the groundwork to challenge Budget Committee Chair Lindsey Graham’s (R-S.C.) use of a “current policy” budget baseline to score the extension of the 2017 tax cuts as not adding to the deficit.

“This is the nuclear option. It’s just hidden behind a whole lot of Washington, D.C., lingo,” Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, declared on the Senate floor.

Republicans pushed back on that claim. Graham argued that Democrats have previously used current-policy baselines to score bills. He pointed to former Senate Budget Committee Chair Kent Conrad’s (D-N.D.) use of a current-policy baseline to pass a farm bill. Democrats, however, say that was done on a bipartisan basis and not for something as monumental as extending trillions of dollars’ worth of tax breaks.

It reaches a Senator soon so they can try it.
It really pisses me off to no end that they're doing the same shit. Playing victim, talking tough and not doing EVERYTHING in their power to bring this to a crawl. AFTER ALL,
THIS BILL WILL KILL MILLIONS!!!
What will it take to draw that fucking line in the sand that says over my dead body.
Republicans have been yelling and screaming utter bullshit for decades now with great success. They've gamed every facet of politics to their advantage and you'd think we'd copy the successful parts instead of "defending norms".
I will be one of those millions.

should clearly have been posted there.
There were many many many people who saw all of this coming. My major issue is that the actions never seem to match the words. The language is properly alarmist but no-one seems to want to pull the actual alarm and respond accordingly.
Ultimately, they can do very little to stop this, but man they sure could do a better job of dragging their feet. Lucy has been keeping the football far too long for us to keep believing this time will be different.

finally finishing up this afternoon, so there was no start of debate until that was finished.

There is now supposedly 20 hours of debate underway (usually "evenly divided" ), and the GOP is expected to use minimal time and will yield back to speed things up and I expect Democrats will use up their full 10 hours of time.

As long as we are in the minority, the options are limited. We could literally boycott and they will still have a quorum of at least 51 to continue.

Only thing left is carrying out a coup.

To slow things down some. They have no ability to shut the Senate down, and no, the Republicans were never able to do that either.

It will most likely be up to balking in the House due to the major changes and how willing GOP members in swing districts that Harris/Walz won will be, to throw their seats away, although Johnson is a snake.
