(28,618 posts)he stated that these ambushes occur in urban areas where there is civil unrest. He said he couldn't recall an ambush like this occurring in rural America.
Now he knows of one.

(21,010 posts)in mystery novels. In real life, we get idiots like this guy.
I live in a rural county in Ohio. In the last 2 years, here are crimes that made the paper: At the end of our street, a guy killed his baby. One street over, there was a murder suicide. Police regularly chase suspects who are armed and have committed anything from drug crimes to robberies to murder. Are these shootouts with cops? No, but it has happened in the area-just up the river there was a chase and a hostage situation. I don't even read a local paper or watch the news and I'm aware of the criminal activity around me.
According to recent stats, crime is more likely in rural areas than urban areas. Anyone who thinks it's the other way around is uninformed.

After every mass shooting all the neighbors or citizens in the area say, "this was such a nice, quiet area. We never thought it would happen here." Why not? What makes your area so special? This is America. It can and will happen anywhere.

So time will tell if he left a manifesto, or thinks he is part of a "underground" internet group fighting for "freedom"? Or just a lone sad clown who thought this was the way to get an audience.

Tragic that he injured and killed others.

CNN speculated that no matter what motive they uncover, it will never make sense. Nobody hates firefighters.

(77,103 posts)Human beings have two cerebral hemispheres. When they are in conflict, often due to a chemical imbalance, when I was young they called it a "nervous breakdown." ("They" being adults who were not familiar with mental illness.)
I think the conscious and unconscious energy from the two sides of a cultural/economic/political divide -- though the maga are not an equal half of citizens -- is causing a conflict that is prone to get good people out to "No Kings!" rallies, etc., while the maga cult becomes more frustrated.
In sociology, studies show that outbreaks of violent usually breaks out when a group believes their lives will "get better" when their leader is making promises he will not keep, rather than a group that feels helpless and hopeless. I think the failure of the felon to carry through on his promises is sparking the conflict in the maga brains.
