Furious Trump yells 'turn it off' as Oval Office event descends into chaos S

Story by Mataeo Smith 1h 3 min read
President Donald Trump lost his cool in the Oval Office Wednesday, appearing to furiously shout at his aides to "turn off" the live broadcast as the presser turned chaotic.
The incumbent's rage boiled over toward the end of a meeting with the Crown Prince of Bahrain in the Oval Office, during which he discussed a wide range of topics from trade to the economy to immigration. The latter seemed to get Trump, who has been given a terrifying new nickname, worked up as he fumed at the Biden administration for allowing "criminals and mental patients" to cross the border into the US.
The president appeared to stop abruptly to yell "turn it off" to an individual off screen. His face had visibly dropped into a grimace. It isn't exactly clear whom Trump was talking to, but a hand is seen moving in the corner seconds after he made the aggressive request. It comes after photos revealed Trump's severely swollen ankles, triggering major new health fears for the president..................

On Wednesday, Trump tried to cast the documents, relating to the client list of disgraced financier and convicted child sex predator Jeffrey Epstein, as a hoax fueled by Democrats.........................

'Biden Put Him In': Donald Trump Exposes His Mental Decline By Forgetting He Was The One Who Nominated Fed Chair Jerome Powell

During a bilateral meeting with the Crown Prince of Bahrain today, Donald Trump lashed out at Fed Chair Jerome Powell again. "I was surprised he was appointed," Trump stated, seemingly unaware that he was the one who nominated him in the first place.

(46,073 posts)As others have mentioned kidney problems from Ozempic are pretty rare.
Several possibilities From Mayo Clinic article cited already:
Edema occurs when tiny blood vessels in the body, also known as capillaries, leak fluid. The fluid builds up in nearby tissues. The leak leads to swelling.
Causes of mild cases of edema include:
Sitting or staying in one position for too long.
Eating too much salty food.
Being premenstrual.
Being pregnant.
Edema also can be a side effect of some medicines. These include:
High blood pressure medicines.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines.
Steroid medicines.
Estrogens.
Certain diabetes medicines called thiazolidinediones.
Medicines use to treat nerve pain.
Sometimes edema can be a sign of a more serious condition. Illnesses that can cause edema include:
Congestive heart failure. Congestive heart failure causes one or both of the heart's lower chambers stop pumping blood well. As a result, blood can back up in the legs, ankles and feet, causing edema.
Congestive heart failure can also cause swelling in the stomach area. This condition also can cause fluid to build up in the lungs. Known as pulmonary edema, this can lead to shortness of breath.
Liver damage. This liver damage from cirrhosis can cause fluid to build up in the stomach area. and in the legs. This fluid buildup in the stomach area is known as ascites.
Kidney disease. Kidney disease can cause fluid and salts in the blood to build up. Edema linked to kidney disease usually occurs in the legs and around the eyes.
Kidney damage. Damage to the tiny, filtering blood vessels in the kidneys can result in nephrotic syndrome. In nephrotic syndrome, decreased levels of protein in the blood can lead to edema.
Weakness or damage to veins in your legs. This condition, known as chronic venous insufficiency, harms the one-way valves in the leg. One-way valves keep blood flowing in one direction. Damage to the valves allows blood to pool in the leg veins and causes swelling.
Deep vein thrombosis, also called DVT. Sudden swelling in one leg with pain in the calf muscle can be due to a blood clot in one of the leg veins. DVT requires medical help right away.
Problems with the system in the body that clears extra fluid from tissues. If the body's lymphatic system is damaged, such as by cancer surgery, the lymphatic system might not drain well.
Severe, long-term lack of protein. An extreme lack of protein in the diet over time can lead to edema.

. . . . It comes after photos revealed Trump's severely swollen ankles, triggering major new health fears for the president..................
At Trump's age, severely swollen ankles and likely similarly swollen lower legs and feet are a sign of congestive heart failure related lymphedema in which the heart is not strong enough to move blood from the lower legs to the rest of the body. This causes excess fluid, including blood, to build up in the lower legs. The area will appear swollen and blotchy red, then will turn blotchy dark blue as though it is bruised and will remain always noticeably swollen. At that point the patient is looking at heart failure because the heart muscle can no longer sustain the level of work needed to continue to circulate through the lower legs. Medication can provide some relief, but, when the swollen area is constant medication does little.
The DUer who asks daily "Is he dead yet?" may soon get the answer we've all been waiting for.

DISCLAIMER: I have now been informed that Pinback was making a joke, and it appears that the joke was on ME!
You know the old saying about hearing hoof beats and expecting to see horses rather than zebras? I think that applies here.
Plague is extremely rare in the U.S. According to the CDC, an average of only 7 cases a year are reported in this country, mostly in the southwest. (Source: https://www.cdc.gov/plague/maps-statistics/index.html)
Congestive heart failure, otoh is quite common, especially in older folks. The CDC says that In the United States, nearly 6.7 million adults 20 years old or older have heart failure. (Source: https://www.cdc.gov/heart-disease/about/heart-failure.html)
If we think of Trump's symptoms as hoof beats, I think it's much more likely that they're coming from congestive heart failure (horses in this analogy) than from a vanishingly rare disease like plague (zebras). I don't know who these smart people are who are theorizing about him having plague, but it really sounds like a stretch to me.

Rereading the post now, I can see clues to it being a joke (like mocking Schlump's use of "many people are saying" . But that did not jump out at me last night. I just thought, "Whoa, if there's a rumor like that floating around, it really needs to be nipped in the bud" and reached for my pruning shears.
I'm actually relieved to know that there actually isn't a rumor like that floating around the internet, but I'm going to leave my reply up, for the benefit of anyone else who reacts to the "joke" the way I did.

(13,339 posts)This was posted sarcastically to lampoon the spirit of wild speculation that too often inflames the internet.
Of course congestive heart failure is vastly more likely than bubonic plague or many other maladies. Then again, if a Trump has plague rumor were to materialize, I wouldnt dissuade his cult from believing it.
But the post was intended as satire and nothing more.

I sat through the video. I got the impression that someones phone was ringing; something like that. Its possible that Trump was signaling to a staffer that he wanted the meeting to end, but thats not how I interpreted his request. I cant be sure, because he was talking to someone off-camera.
In either case, Trump says, Turn it off, please. Thats all. There was no descent into chaos. Trump spoke calmly, for once. See for yourself. This happens at 28:01 in, or 1:08 from the end.

(3,771 posts)Edema is a common problem. I have it thanks to liver disease. (Non life threatening at the moment.) As others have pointed out lots of other problems can cause it. You can have swelling in your feet and legs for years and it's just a cosmetic issue. The problem is that it changed, and drastically, over a short period of time. His ankles weren't this swollen a couple of months ago. That's not deterioration, that's something acute developing. Again there are lots of possibilities but considering the magnitude of the change I'd put congestive heart failure at the top of the to-check list.
