Sen. Angus King Admits His Vote For Anti-Abortion Judge Was 'A Mistake'
Source: Huffington Post
WASHINGTON Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) admitted Thursday that he made a mistake by voting to confirm Josh Divine, a 35-year-old archconservative with a long record of litigation against abortion rights, to a lifetime federal judgeship.
King told HuffPost that he voted Tuesday to confirm Divine after talking to Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), who gave Divine a strong reference. Divine, who will now serve on a U.S. district court in Missouri, used to be Hawleys chief counsel.
I took Josh Hawleys advice, said the Maine senator. In retrospect, I think it was a mistake, from what Ive learned about Mr. Divine since. But sometimes, you rely on your colleagues.
Asked if he was aware of Divines record on abortion rights, King said, Not fully.

Divines record of attacking womens reproductive rights is well-established.
As solicitor general of Missouri, he led a major challenge to the Food and Drug Administrations decades-long approval of mifepristone, aka the abortion pill. He also defended his states efforts to block Planned Parenthood from getting Medicaid reimbursements, and defended his states extreme requirements for accessing abortion care, including making women endure mandatory waiting periods, ultrasounds and pelvic exams.
Divine has gone after LGBTQ+ rights, too, when he defended Missouris ban on gender-affirming care for minors and represented the state in a case trying to challenge conversion therapy bans.

hes age 81.
And Maine just re-elected him to a 3rd term - to 2030 when he will be 86.
Like Biden, he should have stepped down after his 2nd term and not added to the aging of the Congress.
He needs to step down.

(520 posts)And as idiotic as his comment sounds, that probably was the way it was done in the past, where you listened to those on the other side of the isle believing they were acting on good faith, and you may even rely on them for advice.
But Hawley?!!! Cmon man, thats J6 supporting turd? Seriously you gotta know better than to trust that guy of all people!
