Trump official says administration will change visa, citizenship tests

Source: The Hill

07/25/25 5:30 PM ET

The new head of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said in an interview with The New York Times Thursday that the Trump administration will make changes to the visa system for skilled workers and look to make the test for U.S. citizenship more difficult.

“The test as it’s laid out right now, it’s not very difficult,” said Joseph Edlow, who assumed the role in mid-July. “It’s very easy to kind of memorize the answers. I don’t think we’re really comporting with the spirit of the law.”

The first Trump administration instituted a version of the test with an expanded pool of questions that was later rolled back under former President Biden. Edlow told the Times that the government planned to return to a version of the test from the first term.

Edlow also told the Times that the administration would seek to modify the H1-B visa program for skilled workers by prioritizing people who will earn higher wages. “I really do think that the way H-1B needs to be used, and this is one of my favorite phrases, is to, along with a lot of other parts of immigration, supplement, not supplant, U.S. economy and U.S. businesses and U.S. workers,” Edlow said.

I was embarrassed by how much I didn't know or didn't remember from back in the day when school still included civics classes.

I would bet cash money PedoPrez would get the lowest score ever seen on the citizenship test.

of "Einstein" Visas that Trump has usurped for the immigrant housekeepers, groundskeepers and lower level staff at all his resorts and hotels.

He even bragged during his first term, about how many he already had for employees at Mar-a-Gago and how he was gonna be able to get a bunch more now that he was President.......

During his first term, the FBI raided Bedminster? and found countless illegal immigrants working there. The also found boxes of blank Social Security Cards AND a small printing press to put the employees names on the cards..........I can only believe that was the case at all his properties......and surely still is...... given the fact that he now owns the FBI and DOJ..........

Trump has made himself THE Godfather of the world's largest crime syndicate......and is expanding it daily.....................

He is acting like he is the "BORG" and telling everyone "RESISTANCE IS FUTILE"............

The U.S. citizenship test includes 100 civics questions. During the naturalization interview, the USCIS officer will ask the applicant up to 10 of these questions. To pass the civics test, applicants must answer at least 6 out of the 10 questions correctly.

I taught citizenship classes and I had people who had tutoring to learn English. That test covers the Constitution, federal laws, responsibilities of the House n Senate. I learned at lot teaching it and I’ll tell ya, those people are inspiring when you hear their experiences of just getting here. We laugh when Kimmel takes it to the street and asks simple civic questions to graduates who don’t even know the simplest of questions..no one should graduate without basic knowledge of what they expect our new citizens to know. We’ve got legislators that show their ignorance all the time!

That every Republican Politician and MAGAot Voter would fail the test miserably..........

Even those of us who had civics POUNDED into our heads, decades ago in Jr. High, would be challenged by some of the questions......
I don't think they even teach any of that any more, in ANY courses.............

I figure that would clear out about 3/4 of the Republicans in Congress and at least 90% of Trump's Cabinet including Trump himself.

H1-B needs to cost the employer BIG MONEY.

Don't want to pay the American Scientist 325k a year... get an H1-B to hire a foreign scientist for 180k a year...

Charge the employer something like 50% of annual salary... hell, charge it annually!!

A qualification test for all elected, appointed or any unappointed, unconfirmed advisors (monkey miller, this would be you) "public servants" is needed first.

I'd like to see drear leader drumpf pass a citizenship test as given today.
