Trump Is Days Away From Securing His Questionable Air Force One Jet From Qatar

Source: Huff Post

President Donald Trump is days away from getting a $400 million “gift” from a foreign nation. The U.S. government is expected to finalize an agreement with Qatar next week to receive a Boeing 747 aircraft to be used as Air Force One, The Washington Post reported Friday. A July 7 communication reviewed by The Post and signed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, confirms that Qatar will give the “donation” to the Department of Defense.

The deal, months in the making, raises legal, ethical and national security concerns. While the U.S. Constitution forbids anyone holding public office from accepting gifts from foreign governments without approval from Congress, Republicans have largely shrugged off the deal.

“Can’t beat free,” Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) told reporters when asked about the offer in May. Trump, who has referred to the jet as a “palace in the sky,” predictably feels the same way. “Why wouldn’t I accept a free gift?” Trump asked Fox News’ Sean Hannity in May while aboard the current Air Force One.

The ethical ramifications are so apparent that even the document reviewed by The Post appears to take extra effort to explicitly state that this isn’t a bribe. “Nothing in this [memorandum of understanding] is, or shall be interpreted or construed as, an offer, promise or acceptance of any form of bribery, undue influence, or corrupt practice,” the document reportedly said.

Estimates are $1 billion to strip it to the airframe and convert it to AF1 standards. Also 3 -4 years of work. Secondly the caveat it will be donated to the 'Trump Library' smacks of emoluments. Bad deal all around.

It's "free" and being accepted "as is", so I say trump must use it "as is." He should take on any liability, himself. HE's the one that pushed the issue. Our tax dollars should not be used to upgrade a "Free" gift he demanded he be allowed to accept, constitution be damned.

The plane was a money loser for Qatar. They didn't want to pay millions to renovate it or convert it for passenger use or freighter, and it would have cost them thousands to scrap it. So they looked for a sucker to "give" the plane to, and lo and behold, Trump was available.

to function as Air Force One.........And quite possibly take the rest of the Term for Boeing to do the work........., just to then turn it over to being Trump's private property.................

That is totally fucked............

Of course he will insist that Boeing maintain it for free and the U.S. Air Force pilots continue to fly it, and the government stock it with food for his constant jet setting friends, pay for the staff, and pay for the fuel, etc And also insist that all the intelligence equipment on board is left for his private use and grifting....

leave office and JD will take over. JD will pardon F45 for everything leaving F45 to take off to parts unknown (likely SA) in the new jet.

This is how the oldigarchs will install JD as president and complete their take over of the US.
