Oz alleges Maine 'looks a lot like Minnesota' regarding entitlement fraud

The Trump administration’s top Medicare official has suggested that alleged fraud in Maine’s social services programs may be on par with the welfare fraud scandal in Minnesota. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Administrator Mehmet Oz said there is “another big crisis” concerning alleged social services fraud in Maine during an appearance on John Catsimatidis’s “The Cats Roundtable” radio show. “It turns out that Maine looks a lot like Minnesota,” Oz said in the interview, which aired Sunday morning.

Maine Republican legislators raised alarm bells after a whistleblower alleged late last year that millions of dollars had been defrauded from the state’s Medicaid program. State Sen. Matt Harrington (R) has demanded an investigation into the matter, calling it “an absolute slap in the face to every Maine taxpayer” in an interview last December with NewsNation. The allegations are similar to an investigation into alleged fraud in Minnesota, in which federal investigators estimate fraudsters funneled $1 billion in funding allocated for social services programs.

The Trump administration has pinned these fraud operations on the state’s Somali community and cited this alleged connection as the reason behind the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) highly controversial immigration crackdown efforts in Minnesota. Oz alleged that the Maine fraud case is also connected to the state’s Somali population, and he said he’s sent a letter to Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) about these concerns.

The CMS administrator’s comments come after a federal immigration enforcement operation in the state. Last month, Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) announced that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem had agreed to end “enhanced activities” in Maine. Mills has persistently rejected the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown activities across the country, demanding congressional oversight into these operations in a post on the social platform X at the end of January.

Home of Rick Voldemort Scott, the biggest Medicare fraudster ever. If they want to investigate fraud, why not go there? Oh, no Somalis to blame? Don't want to upset the Cuban population there? Oz is just peddling more of his snake oil propaganda to please the talking yam.

Feeding Our Future. This fraud was uncovered by the Walz administration. charged in 2022 under Merrick Garland's DoJ, and 25 defendants pled guilty in 2025. While Feeding our Future did involve many immigrants, the mastermind was Aimee Bock, a white person, and definitely not Somolian.

13. Remember, Oz also possibly made a blatantly false, racist accusation against an Armenian-American business

Touring Van Nuys, Oz casually told reporters, “There’s roughly $3.5 billion of fraud taking place here in Los Angeles, in hospice and home care. It’s run, quite a bit of it, by the Russian Armenian mafia, you notice the lettering and language behind me.” Oz then gestured to the Armenian-language signage behind him, including one advertising a family bakery.

Armenian Americans pressed hard for Oz to address the Armenian genocide question on the campaign trail. All they got were meaningless statements from Oz saying that he “opposed genocide” and that “the evils of World War I should be commemorated.” These are the kinds of euphemisms and verbal gymnastics the Turkish government has long used to deflect attention from its crimes.

Oz was also pressured to explain his questionable ties to Turkey and why he served in the Turkish military and voted in the 2018 Turkish presidential election but not the 2018 American elections. Oz also met and dined with Turkey’s autocratic leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on multiple occasions and has never fully answered questions about his relationship with that regime.

When someone has actively participated in the denial of historical atrocities against a people and now acts as a gatekeeper of law and order against that same group, questions of retaliation arise.

Oz is the LAST person who should be accusing others of fraud.
