U.S. Central Command
MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, SC
US Central Command was born in war. In 1983, the Tampa, Florida-based military command was formed amidst a low-grade maritime war with Iran the Tanker War, part of the broader, grueling Iran-Iraq War. In the four decades since, CENTCOM has served at the knifes edge of war in the Middle East, the Levant region, and Central Asia. The Battle of Mogadishu (Black Hawk Down), Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm, Operation Southern Watch, the Global War on Terror, Operation New Dawn CENTCOM has become the Nations premier warfighting headquarters.

Of all seven American regional unified combatant commands, CENTCOM is among four that are headquartered outside their area of operations (the other three being USAFRICOM, USSOUTHCOM, and USSPACECOM). CENTCOM's main headquarters is located at MacDill Air Force Base, in Tampa, Florida. A forward headquarters was established in 2002 at Camp As Sayliyah in Doha, Qatar, which in 2009 transitioned to a forward headquarters at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
In January 2021, Israel became the 21st country of the CENTCOM AOR, added to another 20 nations including Afghanistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Yemen.[8][9]

Another US soldier died
Three members of the US armed forces have so far died in the military operation of Israel and the USA. Now the US military announced in a statement that a fourth soldier had died - as a result of serious injuries he had suffered during the first attacks against Iran.

(13,726 posts)I remember hearing the nightly body counts on the news during the Vietnam War as though it were a baseball score. It didn't really sink in until later that every one of those 'points' was someone's child who was put in harms way because of politics.

(6,783 posts)The last time was December 7, 1941 when, during negotiations, the Japanese attacked. But that was because of the incompetency of their diplomats who failed to finish their notification to the US that negotiations were over.
That was called "A Day of Infamy" not because they declared war but because we were still negotiating. Just like Private Bonespurs who couldn't wait.
