Dash Crofts, one half of the 1970s soft rock duo Seals & Crofts, known for hits including "Summer Breeze" and "Diamond Girl," died Wednesday at the age of 85.

An agent for Crofts’ daughter, Lua Crofts Faragher, confirmed Crofts' passing to ABC News, saying in part that “Lua, her family, and Brady Seals are mourning this deep loss.”

Brady Seals was a cousin of Jim Seals, the other half of Seals & Crofts, who died in 2022. Brady Seals and Lua Crofts Faragher currently perform under the name Seals & Crofts 2.

“We are honoring and celebrating the amazing life and legacy of Darrell George 'Dash' Crofts, and are so grateful for the music that lives on through Seals & Crofts 2,” the statement continued.

Wow. What a loss. So many iconic songs, a number that were covered by others. R.I.P.

the music was just phenomenal, and based on the number of "reaction" videos I watch, it ain't just us geezers who think so

So many groups and so many great classic songs!

I mentioned in the OP about covers and the Isley Brothers covered their song "Summer Breeze" in '73, literally a year after they released the original song. Doing that helped make it a crossover hit.

It appears the act jumped the shark with this misfire, and it was downhill after that.

Come, behold him. Standing there within.
The Garden of Ridvan, come join the caravan.
I’m sure you’ll understand.

Those lyrics from See My Life, the very first song on their first album, epitomized the main reason why Jimmy Seals and Dash Crofts wrote, sang, and performed – because they wanted to tell the world about Baha’u’llah, the prophet and founder of the Baha’i Faith, who declared his mission in Baghdad’s Ridvan garden in 1863.

The word Ridvan means “paradise,” and that’s exactly what Jim and Dash tried to do throughout their long career – invite others to the paradise of the spirit they had both found in Baha’u’llah’s teachings:

Arise, and proclaim unto the entire creation the tidings that He Who is the All-Merciful hath directed His steps towards the Ridvan and entered it. Guide, then, the people unto the garden of delight which God hath made the Throne of His Paradise.

He met Jim Seals when he was a senior in high school and Jim was in the eighth grade. Given that Jim was born in 1942 (and died at 80 in 2022), 1938 would check out.
