Energy experts say another oil price spike is coming and it may be made worse by the presidents social media posts. President Donald Trump has repeatedly spurred temporary dips in oil prices by claiming on Truth Social that the Iran war is near an end and that U.S. oil production would ensure sky high gas prices would soon retreat.
The jawboning has mostly worked. Even as the global price of oil has crept up over $100 per barrel on the futures market, it is significantly less than the $140 per barrel spot price, or what it would take to buy a barrel today.
But the presidents promises can only work for so long. Supply of oil especially in Europe and Asia is dwindling and a price shock is coming, said Dan Pickering, chief investment officer at Pickering Energy Partners. He said that when the summer driving season begins there will be another gas price shock that hits people in the face. Theres a day of reckoning coming, he said. It will be painful because I can tell you that the stock markets ignoring this.
Another spike in prices around Memorial Day could be a fatal blow to Republican chances for holding onto the House next year, as Americans confidence in the economy continues to drop.

(6,095 posts)All of the price hikes in oil/gas have not even made it through the supply chain yet. You think grocery prices are high now, just wait!...its going to be bad! Forget choosing between your medications and your food....how are you going to afford to get to fucking work!!!!
Now, full disclosure here...I retired late last year and moved to Spain. I have not seen any price increases in food or utilities...and my electrical is 100% sourced from renewables. I do expect there will be some increases because Spain, and Europe on the whole is being affected by the Enorme Naranja Pendejo's war of choice. I just don't think it will be anywhere near as bad as what will affect the U.S.

(42,148 posts)They won't let this opportunity pass to get the retail price up to $5. In southwestern Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh area) we're already paying about $4.19 per gallon.
The oil and gas industry needs to see higher prices at the pump in order to finance their investments in fracking technology. What a coincidence that Chump is handing them this golden opportunity!
