Republicans grow increasingly worried about Trump's negative polls

Republicans see President Trumps sagging approval ratings as a major problem heading into the midterms. Their fears are underscored by a New York Times/Siena College poll released Monday showing Trumps approval ratings hitting new second-term lows as voters expressed anxiety about inflation, gas prices and U.S. involvement in the war in Iran.
While GOP leaders are projecting confidence publicly, Republicans privately fear that rising costs mostly stemming from the ongoing war may lead to record losses in the upcoming elections. Its a serious problem, said one Republican consultant and Trump ally who has clients involved in competitive races. He ran on the economy and immigration and both are in the ster.. If hes sitting in the low 30s as we approach November, Republicans are screwed, period, hard stop, the consultant said.
Kevin Madden, a veteran Republican strategist, said that while theres still time for Trump and the GOP to recover, its a tough environment for Republican candidates.
While a lot of the focus tends to be on the day-to-day noise of campaign season, the state of the broader political environment can be measured by some key fundamentals. Presidential approval rating, right direction-wrong direction indices, and consumer sentiment all provide good indicators of what mood campaigns will be encountering back home in states and districts across the country, Madden said. Right now, all these indicators are flashing.

(2,749 posts)they can't run on their track record without lying. All they have been doing is attacking and lying, and people are tired of their act. But Republicans don't know how to do anything else but, so they will continue to lie and attack...

Well, have Republicans finally reached the bad enough point
so that Democrats don't have to be perfect?

We can all see the other things are cover to keep the Files out of the news. Every day we have to ask when will they be released.
I have no problem with those on the Left going down because they were involved.

(3,762 posts)Those fucking asshead red states are gerrymandering their way into a house majority that will last several human generations. I heard an analysis on an Ezra Klein podcast today saying that the house is now like the electoral college - where, if a state has a Republican legislature and governor, their entire US house delegation wil be 100% Republican. There are something like 6 states no where they will gerrymander their way to a 100% Republican delegation even with Democratic voters as high as 40% in that state.
How SOCTUS can find partisan gerrymandering legal is beyond me. It's calculated voter disenfranchisement.

(13,855 posts)Trumpublicans need to face reality.
He is incapable of negotiating.
His demands will never be met.
The Iranian regime cares not for the suffering of it's people. No amount of bombing will "win" this war as long as IRGC and Basij with jet skis and cheap drones can inflict damage on neighbors, oil tankers, and container ships.
The only "out" is surrender and reparations -- and epic humiliation.-- which he will NEVER allow.
The magnitude of the damage to this nation and the world done by his criminal Iran insanity will escalate every week as the year progresses.
Republicans are in denial. They have their fingers in their ears, singing "la la la." The creatures are hanging on to the fantasy that the felon's criminal war on Iran will magically come to an end and things will "snap back" to some sort of tolerable trumpian business as usual.
But that will NEVER happen with the felon in the White House. There is no out with Trump in power.
He IS the crisis.
The ONLY way to end the crisis is if he leaves.
If enough of them wake up and see this reality we'll see an effort to push him out. A push to resign for "health reasons" or some other face-saving bullshit.
Perhaps it will take a rout in the midterms to wake enough of them up, but resignation is not outside the realm of possibility.
If that does come to pass, they'll find they left it to long. It's too late. The party can't "live down" this level of chaos and destruction. And they only have themselves to blame.

(13,855 posts)If enough Republicans wake up to reality at some point in the coming months, or years, it will be a matter of resigning or being removed. Perhaps he'd believe they would never remove and force the Senate to do it, but I think there is a chance he would take that "face-saving" option of resigning for "health reasons," and leave JD to make the humiliating deal to end the criminal war on Iran.
And who knows? If that unlikely future were to to come to pass, J.D. could be so pissed at him for forcing him humiliate himself and thereby ruin his (non-existent) chances of being the next president, he would release the Epstein files without the Trump redactions.
Sure, not likely. But I suspect things will unfold over the next few years that few people imagine today.
