"She later described the puddle as “like quicksand” and said she “couldn’t get out” of it"

I'm only 5'4" and my legs are longer than 2 feet, so it's baffling to me that someone couldn't escape from a 2' deep 'puddle'. Has anyone had experience with quicksand?

I have no doubt I would have similar trouble. Plus, having dealt with heavy rain and flooding in Houston, the waterlogged ground DOES get like quicksand. She wouldn't be able to stand because there was no firm ground beneath her or around her to crawl out.

It takes great strength to even pull your leg out of quicksand - if she fell down into this puddle and was flailing, the more she struggled to free herself, the worse she would be trapped. She was obviously entirely submerged.

I once sunk to my waist in just plain mud when I slid from a rock on my mountainbike, and it took two of us to pull me out - I could barely move. I'm pretty strong.

I cannot imagine being stuck in a mud hole for 3 days thinking I was going to die. Unbelievable she was rescued. So glad for her.

…mud that was sort of like a trampoline. Well it was until one of my buddies went up to his waist in the mud, like immediately. We’re all in the 7th grade, so the guy was about 12 or 14, and not that tall. We were freaked but figured struggling was a bad idea. Luckily we were able to get him out. But he almost disappeared into the gelitainous goop.
Jeez, that was in 1965. John’s Pond. Never went back there, I prefer lakes. The word, pond, still leaves me feeling uneasy
