What is with all the Biden hate?

What is going on? I am starting to see editorials and analyses that are blaming the second coming of the convicted felon on Joseph Robinette Biden. It seems like there is a determined campaign to trash his legacy. I could believe the idea is to not just overturn everything he accomplished, but to erase his presidency entirely, as though it never happened. You’d think someone is trying to make it seem like there is an unbroken reign from the felon’s first term to his second.

We haven’t reached the point yet, like that seen under Stalin, where history would be rewritten and photos edited to remove unpersons who had fallen out of favor and been purged.

-snip-

I keep seeing the same talking points — Biden is unpopular. Biden wrecked the economy — or people think he did. Biden should have stepped down earlier, or never run for a second term in the first place. Biden’s policies were unpopular. He should have pursued a more progressive agenda. He should have moved more to the right. Harris didn’t do enough to distance herself from him. Etc. etc.

-snip-

Never mind that his administration has been largely scandal free. Never mind that he surrounded himself with some really competent people. Never mind that he took an economy in shambles and turned it around. Never mind that he restored international relations that had been crippled and turned them around, including NATO expansion. Never mind that the infrastructure bill was an incredible accomplishment given the Congress he had to work with. Never mind that he was the most pro-union president we’ve ever had. Never mind he is a fundamentally decent man; his character is not in question.

With it. Like, I wasn’t hearing people really talking about it as I went out and about my day, and while I traveled around the SE and MW for work. And I’m talking about regular, non-politically focused people.

Last Wednesday, I wasn’t hearing much about it either. I rang my dad Wednesday evening, and not really being in the mood, I didn’t bring it up. He’s not political. Late in the convo, he said “Well, I guess you saw where Trump won.” Sarcastically, I responded, “Oh? He did?”

At least in my little bubble, I don’t think people are putting much thought into it. They got up Wednesday, and life went on. Maybe, it’s because it’ll be a repeat.

I have to remind myself that we here on DU, viewers of Foxnews and MSNBC, and volunteers for campaigns are not the norm. We are engaged in political news, happenings and other things. Most Americans aren’t and don’t really care.

is playing by the old rules. Bringing a knife to a gunfight. Not recognizing the info warfare people were falling victim to. How can you fight a clean, fair fight against a dirty fighter?

His oath was to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States & SCOTUS gave him pre-approval to do pretty much whatever he needs to do. If he doesn't use these new 21st century powers & peacefully transfers power to an authoritarian knowing full well what Trump's plans are, IMO he deserves to have his 50+ year, outstanding reputation soiled. I hope there are secret plans in the background but I seriously doubt there are.

Agree 100%. Is there any way the Supreme Court may have wanted Biden to have this power, knowing they were under trump’s thumb with compromat? Outwardly appearing to be on trump’s side, knowing full well Joe would have it as well. I believe it may be our only hope. Even though maga will be head hunting. What a mess! Even if scotus didn’t intend on Biden using this immunity, he has it nevertheless.

There's nothing in his history to indicate he will do anything other than play by the rulebook he was issued back in the 70s. Millions of people will suffer.

He didn’t, as it turned out, finish the job. And however much his most dedicated followers disagree and/or resent it, that’s what he will be most remembered for.

When you are perceived to have a hand in taking people back to the place you were supposed to shield them from, expect incoming.

Democrats don’t hate Biden. Many wish he had done some basic things differently. He is a good man who did his best and had many great moments of success. Sorrow and regret is not hate.

What constitutes finishing the job – jailing him absent due process, exile, having him killed; in the Modern Era, our democratic traditions hold that a president voted out of office would retire from politics never to be heard from again – no political mechanism exists to address a president voted out of office who refuses to respect that tradition.

Prosecute the case(s) against him and/or defeat him again in 2024. Biden and his Administration failed at both.
