Democrats across America could learn from the electoral success of the Pacific NW's effective congressional delegation
by Joel Connelly
Only the rarest morning goes by when I do not find news from Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (MGP) waiting in my inbox. She was seen as the Democrats most vulnerable House incumbent, but her campaign has successfully persuaded Southwest Washington voters to give her a second term in Congress.
All politics is local goes a famous maxim of House Speaker Tip ONeil, and it sure applies in Washington and Oregon. Our folk in the Senate and House, with a cross-country commute, withstood this months Republican triumphs. How they did it holds keys to the Democrats recovery and effective resistance to the second Trump presidency.
The Gluesenkamp Perez releases tell of hands-on attention to every corner of a sprawling congressional district. Lewis County votes against her, but gets a hearing on renewal of the farm bill. A mobile office carries aides up the White Pass highway.
The biggest source of votes in our 3rd Congressional District is in Clark County (encompassing Vancouver and its suburbs), which MGP has now twice carried handily.
