As Trump steamrolls ahead, Democrats see a growing 'heartbeat' of resistance

On Friday, hundreds of scientists marched in Los Angeles at a “Stand Up for Science” event, part of a larger nationwide day of protest against Trump policies that have slashed federal funding for scientific research and threatened agencies dedicated to weather forecasting and environmental protection.

On Saturday, the arrest of Columbia University student and Palestinian protest organizer Mahmoud Khalil by federal immigration officers, despite his facing no criminal charges and being a green card holder, sparked protests in New York and around the country.

On Sunday, Trump was again on everyone’s mind as Democratic lawmakers joined thousands of others for a march to commemorate the 60th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday,” when law enforcement brutalized voting rights activists in Selma, Ala., in 1965. “At this moment, faced with trouble on every side, we’ve got to press on,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said.

On Monday, after weekend visits to big crowds in Wisconsin as part of his “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, Sanders, 83, stood with a bullhorn on the back of a pickup truck in suburban Detroit, addressing an overflow crowd that couldn’t fit into the high school gym where he was speaking.

1. Resistance from who? If the resistance is only preaching to choir, I don't think it will move the needle. On the other

hand if this resistance is moving independents, that will move the needle.

Personally I don't think the pain from this administration's draconian policies have yet trickled down enough to cause enough pain to the general public to resist, but with the April 1 additional tariffs pending, that could change the paradigm.

2. It may start with preaching to the choir because the faithful will be most open to the message, but

when the choir starts singing and the parishioners join in, even people outside the church can hear the gospel of democracy, justice and human rights.

As hell on earth spreads to the bottom line and/or lives of the public at large, the message will grow exponentially, the oppressed and the compassionate will be singing in the streets and their voices will become irresistible.

6. That has always been the case insofar as communications is concerned, but the movement against oligarchy

primarily via the near instant mass two way communication of the Internet as it largely supplanted mass one way corporate owned television messaging pressured the oligarchs to come out of the woodwork and take a hands on approach, yanking the strings from behind the curtains just wasn't good enough anymore.

The oligarchs have now directly joined the battle while paying a heavy financial and social price in the process.

*rump's inauguration and White House commercial for Musk's beleaguered Tesla corporation might as well have been campaign commercials for Bernie Sanders decades long warnings against the dangers of oligarchy.
