Ben & Jerry's boss 'ousted over political activism'
19 March 2025
João da Silva
Business reporter, BBC News
Ben & Jerry's has said its chief executive, David Stever, was being removed by its parent company, Unilever, in a growing dispute over the ice cream company's political activism.
The allegation was part of a legal case filed in a US court by Ben & Jerry's that says Unilever violated a merger agreement by trying to silence its "social mission".
Unilever did not immediately reply to a request for comment from BBC News.
It comes a month after the ice cream company accused Unilever of demanding that it stops publicly criticising US President Donald Trump.

(5,979 posts)Ben and Jerry's was started by liberal activists years ago. Many are fans of their activism and their ice cream. Now, after being sold to corporate masters, their whole reason for being is gone. Lots of good ice cream around. Sad and predictable.

... Ben and Jerry were behind the counter selling ice cream by the scoop in a little *storefront in Burlington. They were personable and funny, and their ice cream was really good.
They grew with a social awareness that was unusual for the time, but eventually, they got bought out by corporatists, who probably made them an offer they couldn't refuse. Those people, like private equity of today, borrowed their business model from the Mafia. They just have better tailors.
*Actually, it was a renovated gas station, now that I recall.

(2,049 posts)... Stephen Miller, and a couple of others, saying that criticism of Trump will not be tolerated. As I am constantly repeating, when a psychotic monster tells you he's a psychotic monster, BELIEVE HIM!
