Steve Schmidt: Trump will be no kingmaker in 2028

Donald Trump and MAGA are bleeding support across the country. Despite his fear-mongering rhetoric over stopping elections and rejecting the results, the landslide that will annihilate the Republican majority in 253 days is already moving down the mountain.
It cannot be stopped.
Donald Trump has cratered the American economy, attacked American cities with masked paramilitaries, prosecuted political opponents, destroyed American prestige around the world, shattered our alliances, engaged in supernatural levels of corruption and incompetence, while simultaneously being revealed as a charter member of the Epstein class.
What he has wrecked will never be repaired, but in time, and with a little luck, it can be overcome.
The American people elected Trump and chose disaster. He is the product of a diseased society and a rotten democracy that has been broken over the 21st century by failed presidents, idiotic congressional leaders, rapacious technology oligarchs, media executives and access journalists like the preposterous Maggie Haberman of The New York Times.
The American people have been poisoned by a steady stream of nonsense, propaganda and misinformation that could only have broken through in a society in which trust has completely evaporated. Trump is only possible in a world where reality itself has been long under siege.
Eleven long years have passed since Donald Trump descended an escalator in Manhattan, and spewed his hate wrapped in demented schtick. Look around. We have travelled far down the river. Always remember that when Jeffrey Epsteins closest friend launched a coup and sent a mob to attack the US Capitol, while lying about the results of a free and fair election, it was the American medias partnership that resuscitated him as surely as Kevin McCarthy did.

It has been a while since I posted a column by Steve Schmidt, but I receive his daily newsletter and read it often. He has a way of sounding angry about everything, all the time, but sometimes that anger is based on reason.
