New video shows correspondents' dinner suspect shooting officer, top prosecutor says

(NBC News) Video released Thursday shows the suspect in the shooting during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner appearing to shoot a Secret Service officer as he sprints through a security checkpoint with a shotgun in his hands, authorities said.

Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, posted the video on X. She wrote that it shows Cole Tomas Allen shooting the Secret Service officer at the Washington Hilton hotel on Saturday.

“There is no evidence the shooting was the result of friendly fire,” Pirro said on X.

The video also shows Allen “casing the area in the Hilton Hotel the day before the attack,” Pirro wrote.

2. This is absolute bullshit as you'd expect.

The video shows no evidence of the guy discharging his weapon. It shows the exact opposite. Three officers are shown standing in the area he supposedly fires at. After he passes, all 3 are seen walking calmly in the direction he was running. Clearly, none of them were shot.

The metal detectors were apparently being disassembled--that had been reported but the video completely allows that to be the case.

Then the three all, in unison, bend suddenly away from Allen as they raise their hands in what looks defensive. You know, the sort of response that a really loud possibly threatening noise might provoke.

Another guy on the other side of the checkpoint at the exact same time and for some completely inexplicable reason suddenly bends forward, clutching his left side; then as he reaches for his gun as Allen runs by, his right hand going for his gun, his left hand still clutches at the part of his chest that was facing Allen. Mysterious, that bit of play acting.

Gee, I wonder what made the three guards lurch backwards and raise their hands defensively just as the other agent bends over and clutches at his chest? Maybe that's standard training protocol--when a person runs by, act like you've been shot as others perform some sort of choreographed routine?

Note that as Allen approached that particular agent at the checkpoint he was carrying something fairly long and fairly thin that was pointing fairly horizontally and directed a bit to his left--weirdly, directly at the agent in the suit! But as the agent was busily bending over, and Allen ran by, he repositioned the long thin object to pointing straight ahead.
