Worker Protections Weakened to pad the Bottom Line

All workers deserve to return home safely from work.

Each year, thousands of Americans die from fatal injuries incurred at work. In 2024, OSHA reported that 5,070 people died from work-related injuries in the U.S.

Hundreds of thousands more die each year from occupational diseases, according to AFL-CIO. An astonishing number that is still likely undercounted and is certainly not talked about enough.

This past week, we marked Workers’ Memorial Day on April 28th and May Day on May 1st. Two important days in worker history that remind us that we can never sit still for too long. They are a call to action that protecting workers is a never-ending job.
