Operation Epic Fury, Meet Operation Colossal Blunder
Americas war with Iran has entered a calmer phase: diplomatic posturing, on-and-off-again negotiations and endless wrangling of a settlement. This, of course, is far preferable to the annihilation of Iranian civilization that President Trump was threatening just a few weeks ago. But it raises the question of just what has spurred this turnabout.
The answer is rather straightforward. The American and Israeli bombing of Iran failed to provoke either a popular uprising against the regime in Tehran or its capitulation, however painfully slow Mr. Trump and his advisers have been to acknowledge that. Instead, Iran discovered its ability to shut down the vital passageway of the Strait of Hormuz and send the global economy into chaos.
There are now only two outcomes to the conflict: either the kind of wholesale destruction of Iran that Mr. Trump posited, or a settlement that will leave the government intact and empowered, and a blustering American president humiliated.
The first option is increasingly remote. By publicly threatening the commission of war crimes on an enormous scale, Mr. Trump has given both his domestic and foreign opponents time to marshal resistance. As for the latter and more likely outcome, this was predictable, if only the president and his administration had bothered to take note of a new feature of modern warfare, a feature that can be boiled down to a single word: drones.

(19,218 posts)... all like themselves big ticket, big item, big budget, big cost, big $$$ overruns, big expensive hi tech missile systems, big sophisticated radar system, and hi tech laser systems, and big waste/fraud. The more money that goes through their fingers, the more money that they can pinch/redirect to their coffers or their personal benefits.
This is why each and every time they do a Pentagon annual inventory and financial audit billions upon billions of dollars are among the disappeared and the missing.
This is one of the grandest of enormously large larcenies to ever transpire, but year after year nobody does a fucking thing to investigate and/or solve these issues, attempt to curtail it, and bring it to a fucking halt.
They just come back year after year with a more bloated and blown up Pentagon budgets looking for more and more money to fill up their coffers so the profiteers, fraudsters, and assorted other banditos can come grab their fists full of dollar to fatten their personal bank accounts and billfolds.
Nobody cares to lift a finger to stop this massive theft of government money. They just seek higher and higher military budgets.
This status quo serves the Pentagon fat cats and assorted thieves very handsomely. Why would they ever upset or seek to change the milking of this never to go dry cash cow. Maintaining the status quo to these participants is paramount. Not wanting to ever change a fucking thing.
This is how the status quo perpetuates itself to live another day,... Into perpetuity would be just fine and dandy. The sweet milk and honey tastes so darned good, they don't ever want to shut the spigot off.
As the taxpayer's wallets are running bone dry.
