Trump Aide Claims Americans 'Spending More Money on Everything' Shows They're 'Optimistic' About Economy

"For the second time in a month, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett on Tuesday claimed that Americans spending more money on gasoline and other goods is a sign of strength for the US economy—rather than evidence of the Trump administration’s inflationary policy decisions."

"During an interview with Fox Business, Hassett tried to counter recent data showing US consumer sentiment hitting all-time lows during President Donald Trump’s second term."

" 'The thing that I’ve seen when I look at credit card data,' Hassett said, 'is that while people have been spending more money at gas stations, they’ve been spending more money on everything else, which means that they’re still very, very optimistic about the state of the economy, and they should be.' "

"In fact, multiple consumer surveys have shown that Americans have never been more pessimistic about the state of the economy."

Hassett Is a chucklehead. He comes from a world where he never gets a grocery bill and he doesn’t need gas to get to work. He doesn’t understand us at all. He should just shut up.

People aren't buying special items on credit cards... like 70" tvs... you used to do that when you felt good about the economy and knew you could afford the payments.

People are LIVING off credit cards now. The cards pay for groceries, gas, medicine. These are not luxury, specialty items, idiot. And it means there's going to be a world of bankruptcies heading at us because people are having to make ends meet not only with whatever piddling check they get, but also with the credit cards to take up the slack.

I detest living like this. Never did it in the past; makes no good sense to me now. But it is keeping my head above water (barely). Although with low rates you can charge, it takes 3 of them for me to do it. It really makes me feel bad... depressed... humiliated. Of course, I'm sure this idiot and his master absolutely intend these feelings for us.

This so reminds me of this skit from a half century ago. Aykroyd trying to convince America inflation is actually good because soon everyone will be millionaires and smoke expensive cigars and so on....
