(24,074 posts)Alcohol does last a while too, and doesn't spoil. And if they don't drink anymore, take it back and give them the money instead, they won't be offended (or they won't say anything to you and give it away quietly later and no one will be the wiser).
Now, in an exception, I used to give homemade wine and Jack Daniels to my Mom and Dad, until I found out that my alcoholic brother drank all of the Jack Daniels, so I stopped buying the alcohol for my parents because of that, just gave my folks the money instead, and they could get what they wanted, when they wanted.

(32,040 posts)to Thanksgiving at their home may-be twice in all the years weve lived here. Now??? I think my S-I-L and brother to my husband want to make up lost time. My husband isnt here anymore to enjoy them, so I do feel kinda funny going to there home when its only me. They did suggest we meet for dinner, and now because it's darker earlier in the day, every Wednesday for a later lunch, about 2:00ish. So I am seeing them every week. Just wish my husband was here too. I miss him so much.

(4,613 posts)I'm not, but I feel sorry for my BIL who is a vegan, they never let up on him the whole day. I can cook well enough that I can lay out a traditional meal from scratch, but the past 2 years, I've purchased entrees and bread from a vegan restaurant, and we set next to each other. I'm learning to cook vegan, I make the salad and dessert, and he takes home the leftovers.
Sorry I'm still a carnivore at heart, before it's gone I will be carving off a big slab of caribou roast and cheesecake, for my doggy bag.

(22,701 posts)My Thanksgiving contribution will be a chocolate pound cake and hot dinner rolls from scratch. I love making rolls, kneading is so therapeutic.

(6,320 posts)And share my personal drink that I invented. It is called an 'Irish Lady'.
In a 12 oz. coffe mug:
1 heavy oz. (shot) cream de cacao
1 heavy oz. Irish Whiskey
2 oz. Irish Cream
Finish with coffee (preferably Kona or a French Roast). Whipped cream with chocolate sprinkles optional.
It will warm any cockle, trust me.
