Baby bald eagles typically stay in the nest for about 8 to 14 weeks before they fledge and begin to fly. After fledging, they may remain in the nesting territory for an additional 4 to 12 weeks while learning to hunt and fly.

It breaks my heart too much.

But it does amaze me how they parent and survive.

9. Yah, one year they had that "black band" over a cat that the parents picked up for a later supper.....

there’s a lot of elementary school kids that watch these eagles (Decorah Eagles) and they had to block out the cat so the kids wouldn’t see it. I absolutely love nature until it has to eat.

About the Eagles

The Decorah North eagles are nesting on private property north of Decorah, Iowa. Their nest is located in a white oak tree in a scrap of forest bordering a valley. A stream is located across a field where cattle are pastured. In general, the eagles begin courtship in October, productive mating in late January or early February, and egg-laying in mid to late February. Hatching usually begins in late March to early April, and the eaglets fledge in mid-to-late June. While young usually disperse between August and October, the adults remain on territory year round.

I saw her adjusting one egg earlier, not sure if there are more.
