It’s 5 degrees at my son’s in York County, Maine,10 degrees at my dear friend’s place in Jonesport, Maine and exactly 0 here in my village….part of Vermont’s “Northeast Kingdom”.

"hardy" dog-walker. I'm fine with cold. Wind along with the cold, umm, no. But we were good. I calculate temps based on how many layers are under the coat. This was a one-layer (fleece). Zero degrees is a two-layer. Minus 5-10 is definitely 3 3-layer outfit, including multiple layers of socks under my Gore-Tex hiking boots. Knowing how to dress and attitude is 90% of the "game."

A group of adolescent coyotes tracked with us yesterday, so maybe it's time to start carrying a ski pole for both the ice and a little deterrent beyond the pepper spray on my keychain.

Has worked for me. A clay ball in the snout and a ball bearing is un-necessary.

The roads are dry, thankfully. People here are terrible drivers, but that's every day!
