I think the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle ($20 gold coin) is the most beautiful coin ever minted.
A 1931 D Saint-Gaudens, is very valuable. The D means that it was struck at the Denver mint, and there were only 106,000 of this this particular date and mint location struck. That particular coin in MS64 condition would probably sell for $200K - $350K at auction (Mint State 64, with the very highest grade being 70).

Please let me know if anyone would like to buy me one.
You can purchase common date Saint-Gaudens double eagles having a lower grade for apx. $5-$7K.
I'm also partial to standing liberty quarters. A gorgeous coin.

(31,591 posts)Before my farmhouse burned down in 1999, I had a collection of coins that were odd, I thought. In particular, I had a Lincoln penny that had him smoking a pipe with a couple of smoke circles above the pipe. I am sure it was a secondary die strike, but was kinda cool. Every heard of them?

(21,990 posts)It's called a "counterstamp" that someone added to it. It's a novelty item, but it might be worth maybe $5 to $10 to someone who collects counterstamped coins.
Someone on ebay is asking $25 for two of them.

(38,860 posts)couple days ago there is a older version of the Standing Liberty quarter. The first one, Liberty had an exposed breast. It was only minted for a short time before the mint had to cover the breast. They are supposed to be very valuable.
1916?
