Last night I made a quick store at a local liquor store to get some lottery tickets. When I tried to start my car, a 22007 CR-V,
the car alarm went off beeping, beeping, and beeping. I was pressing the buttons on the key fob but no luck. I tried starting the car to see if that would solve the problem but it didn't. Fortunately, I keep a small, adjustable wrench in the car so I popped the hood and undid the negative terminal to the battery hoping that would work. Of course, it didn't. I referenced the car manual and it didn't have anything in it about disabling the car alarm. After re-trying the negative cable a couple of times I called AAA who came out about 30 minutes later. I explained the problem to the mechanic and he asked for my keys. He reattached the negative and put the key in the driver's door and the beeping stopped. Who knew that putting the key in the driver's door was the answer! The mechanic tested my battery and said it was "perfect" which it should be since I replaced it late last year.
I'm putting a note in my owner's manual so if this happens again I'll know what to do.
Anyone else have this problem with their car and if you did what did you do to solve the problem?

(44,738 posts)I was thinking of that last week when my neighbors alarm went off. I have a fob so no place to put a key but my answer is a few miles away at the dealer. And they always have a pot of coffee on. I was in the canoe club. Had a short tour with the Air Force in 96 in Saudi. Great Guys to serve with.

It's a stick.

(27,618 posts)my car's in the garage, Sunday afternoon, I'm sitting in the kitchen talking to Dad, and out of the blue, car horn/alarm goes off. Puzzled, I reach for the key/fob, push the alarm button--nothing. It kept honking. I finally popped the hood, and found the fuse for the horn and pulled it out. Stopped it. I put the fuse back in, and no more honking.
I'll have to remember the key in the door lock trick. I have a different car now, and not sure I could find the fuses on it in a hurry.

(45 posts)On every sailing of BC Ferries, there's an announcement asking BMW and other high-end cars to NOT lock their vehicles with their remotes. The movement of the ship and wave conditions easily triggers their alarms.
Invariably, there's at least one or two car alarms that go off. Every.Damn.Time.
