"It's nice to have snow at Christmas."

I've heard this all my life, to which I say Bah humbug! It may be nice to have snow on a Christmas card, but it's not nice to have snow on the ground at Christmas. You don't have to shovel it because it's Christmas? You don't have to scrape it off your windshield because it's Christmas? You don't have to drive in it because it's Christmas? The snowy roads aren't dangerous because it's Christmas? It doesn't turn all black a few days later because it's Christmas?

If you think I'm wrong, please tell me why. 😉

By the way, the weatherman is predicting it'll be in the 40s on Christmas day here in southeast Michigan to which I say "YAHOO!" Time to get out the shorts.....

It looks beautiful when it is new-fallen, and I don't have to deal with it. But the roads are dangerous enough without snow. And after a few days just enough above freezing to melt the snow on the roads and nights cold enough to freeze it into muffler removaling chunks, the people falling and breaking hips on the ice, the tree branches breaking under the weight of a heavier than usual snow...

A lot of beautiful things are not worth the trouble.

My mother and I used to go to Las Vegas every year. One time, the week before Christmas, it was 57° when we left Detroit and 39° and snowing in Vegas. They were big wimpy snowflakes, but it was snowing all the same. We had to keep circling the airport before we landed. Practically the whole town was shut down; flights were canceled, nobody came out, etc. One day, we were practically the only people walking down the Strip. The big fat wimpy snowflakes were no big deal to us. There wasn't any accumulation in Vegas, but we saw on the news that there was in Henderson. People were using brooms and mops to get the snow off their sidewalks and driveways! It was hilarious. Our flight home five days later was delayed but not canceled like so many others all week, thank goodness! I'll never forget that experience.

No AC, no fan, and the low that night was 101 degrees according to the weather station at Circus Circus.

FYI, the Westfalia was a air cooled engine. They were notorious for having virtually no heat in low temperatures.

We left there the next morning headed to SLC. By the time we got to Cedar City (2.5 hours away) we were wrapped in blankets trying to stay warm.

Weather is a very fickle phenomenon!

But, my wife is the opposite.
This year she's out of luck. They're calling for high 50s on Christmas day! In northern Illinois!

the ground from November to
March when I was growing up.

In the past 3 years we have had three dustings of snow, less than 3 inches each time.

It breaks my heart to see this evidence of what we are doing to our mother Earth.

When I was a kid, I loved being outside in the winter playing in the snow. When I was sick and couldn't go out, my grandmother would bring in a bucket of snow for me to play with in the kitchen sink. Of course, it melted quickly but it was fun while it lasted.

That is a fond winter memory of bygone days.
