Here is someone who's not a prolific DU poster (with a little over 2,000 posts) and who's not a creator or founder of DU and obviously hasn't read DU's Lounge rules and why it's actually here:

Our social forum. Relax with your friends and talk about off-topic stuff. The Lounge is supposed to be a friendly, welcoming place for everyone. No cliquish behavior. No drama. No political arguments. No whining about DU.

I'm not going to let them push you around, Debbie. You're content helps people and continues to do so.

Some click on threads that will lift their spirits. Others will share their angst or seek to comfort those struggling.

That's entirely up to each individual DUer at any given time. Outside of the terms of service, nobody should attempt to sway how others choose to post here.

Humor existed in the trenches of World War II. There's room for lighter fare here in the Lounge always. The world isn't without tragedies and hardship at any point. We could just live a glum existence forever, but who benefits?

If Bob looked at the DU's Lounge rules, they would see it's meant not to be too serious here and of course members can be serious if they choose to be. We share off the wall jokes, puns, movies, music, trivia and whatever else here. It sounds like Bob has never been in the Lounge before.
