Is there a song you never cared for until someone came out with a version you really like?

For me, it was "Over the Rainbow." I never liked it until I heard Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole's version with just him and his ukulele. I just love it!

All Along The Watchtower. It felt like a minor novelty until Jimi came along. Gaugamela 22 hrs ago #1
I was going to say the best cover ever was Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower. surfered 22 hrs ago #3

It's easy to get tired of Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas, but this is a beautiful cover: tanyev 21 hrs ago #6

Nothing against Dylan’s original, the cover was just so different, awesome, and iconic.

Was on the Rolling Stones 1967 "Flowers" album, which I got for Christmas at 14. I had never heard the Temptations 1964 version; maybe it wasn't played on WBZ Boston or maybe, at 11 years old, I wasn't paying attention. When I finally heard The Temptations sing "My Girl", I was blown away and also really mad that I'd wasted years listening to the Stone's version.

I've never heard The Rolling Stones version, but there's no way it could ever come close to The Temptations version. I don't think there ever will be a better version.

Full disclosure: as someone who grew up in Detroit in the 60s, I am all about Motown. That is my music, then, now and forever.

I respect Willie Nelson, he's a great songwriter, but the Pet Shop Boys really make this a masterpiece!!

ON EDIT: Willie Nelson didn't write "Always on My Mind!" Wow! Live and learn!!
