Trying Some New Apples

My sudden rise is A1C has me adjusting my snack habits. (I should note that I am suspicious of the number, because it went for 3.9 to 6.2 in a year over which I lost 11#. But, adjusting snack habits can't hurt me.)
Anyway, I started on apples with my go-to Granny Smith. But, I thought I'd add.
So I bought a couple of each: Fuji, Honeycrisp, Pink Lady.
Now, I've had one of each.
Honeycrisp: C
These are inferior to Granny Smith so they won't be in the rotation
Fuji: B+
Not as firm as a GS, but a good mix of sweet & tart.
Pink Lady: A+
Fantastic texture, very flavorful beyond sweet & tart. Definitely in the mix for the future.
If you've never had a Pink Lady apple, you should give them a shot.

I'm stuck on Galas but bake with Granny Smiths. I've of course seen other types in the store but haven't been as "brave" as you to step out of my rut. I'll try Pink Ladys (Ladies?) next trip.

I'm not a pear fan, and peach supply is iffy this time of year, though I noticed digital coupons for both peaches & nectarines yesterday.
But, with 4 apples & 2 mangos left, I didn't buy them.
I don't bake, so I wouldn't know if the PL apples are good for baking. But, there terrific as a stand-alone bite.
Another tip: following Alton Brown's suggestion, I put a little salt on apples when eating them. Makes a huge difference.
Huge improvement on melon, too.

5. All apples bake just fine, with minor adjustments, using larger or smaller chunks, adding sugar or other fruit.

very good crunch with tart yet sweet taste.

We tried the three you mentioned but none quite seemed to have it all. We ate Fujis for years before switching to cosmic crisp

... actually I miss Macintosh, Johnathon, Baldwynns, Pippens, Winesaps, Northern Spy, and a whole bunch more from my childhood.

I knew that that first Red Delicious was going to be a mistake, and the Gold Delicious sealed it. I think a lot of these new apples seem meally and overly sweet with no other hints.
