What's is the BEST electric drip coffee maker I can buy for under $100.00?
I currently have a Cuisineart but the drip isn't working right and I dunno what the hell is going on! And i JUST bought a big load of coffee paper filters and I don't wanna buy a big bunch of different paper filters. The round ones.
I feel very sorry for myself. I need something to help me start my day with my honey nut cheerios and a good cup of coffee, no espresso (I don't care what they drink in Italy).
Please help. Thank you!

(54,801 posts)I have an old Farberware stainless electric. Round filters. Is Farberware still in business?
But I often just bring it to a boil in a pot and filter it. To me the quality of the water is more important than the method.

I could do what you do but I'm too lazy and old. And I don't want instant coffee.

anciano
(2,232 posts)it allows better control over the brewing process and has more of a morning ritual appeal than simply pressing a button on a machine.

(101,928 posts)Melitta brand, I have a three piece porcelainset but you can also get the cone filter unit, different brand but porcelain that uses a #2 filter. That's what I use now that I don't drink more than one mug of coffee in the morning.
And it does have a ritual thing about it which I like. Been using one of the two units for almost 50 years. And they aren't expensive.
The single serving unit sits on top of you cup, I use a 20oz mug so I put two popcicle sticks on the top of the mug and set the cone thing on that, makes it fit almost any size.

(6,047 posts)I run clean vinegar solution through two or three times, a stronger vinegar solution than Floyd recommends but he's probably correct. Then once with filtered water. (I always use filtered tap water to make coffee; our tap water is very chlorine-tasting.)

I just wish they wouldn't shut off after two hours of being on. But, all coffee pots have that safety feature now.

(44,454 posts)I set it up the night before so I only have to push the button in the morning.
Emile
(41,872 posts)though, I'll push the button, and then come back a few minutes later to a red hot empty pot. Whoops, I forgot to make coffee ready for the morning.

(4,926 posts)Heat water to almost boiling (or boil and wait half a minute before poring).
You can heat water multiple ways even when the power is out.
No filter needed.

(463 posts)10 cup, insulated carafe instead of glass, has a preheater for the water, so it makes a pot really quickly, and it takes the round filters. It does not have a warmer to keep the pot warm, but the insulated carafe keeps it warm for a few hours.

(23,009 posts)I have a Cuisinart my kids got my in 2016. I run vinegar through once in awhile. I take everything I can out and scrub it. I take out the plastic basket that holds the filter and depress the spring so I can clean the hole to make sure oil and particles don't build up. Also, mine has a filter at the end of a plastic holder that is in the corner at the back of the reservoir. You can pull the holder up and the filter is in a cage at the bottom. If you have the same and haven't changed it, it might improve your drip. You can get the filter online.
Ollie's is a discount store and they have a nice selection of name brand coffee makers, usually cheaper than online offers.
If you decide to get a new one, look at the details and make sure you get what you want. I thought I should retire this one and got a new one. The one I got had a hinged lid on the carafe. The Cuisinart has a lid that comes off. I bought a cheap one and within a year, the thermostat failed. The hot pad stays on in spite of the timer that shuts it off. It usable, but is it safe? I went back to the Cuisinart

(299 posts)We used to buy the Cuisinart's brand, but stopped when they started failing after only a year or two of use. We've switched to Ninja coffeemakers, and been happy. It's good product engineering.

(16,928 posts)It has a removable water reservoir, has a one cupcoffee scoop that sttaches to the side snd uses conical paper filters available in every store. It has a button to press if you are brewing 4 cups or less and it brews two cups just as well as it does when brewing a full pot.
One scoop of coffee per cup of water in the reservoir that has a scale showing number of cups. Two scoops/2 cups of water make a good sized single cup etc. I think I got it on sale for around $40 but they are normally around $65. Its durable.
