and I know they used to bury the ice in sawdust to keep it cold.... I'm that old
I'm so old, I went to a one-room schoolhouse

(28,631 posts)and later started an ice delivery service . Later expanded it to fuels , and then a transportation company .
I never knew him as he died before my mom ( his daughter) and dad were even married. He and my grandmother had 10 kids and most worked in his company , or one he started .
I understand he had massive shoulders from carrying ice blocks in his teenage years .

(4,632 posts)... but I do remember my grandparents' milk being delivered by a horse-drawn wagon. The delivery man used an old curling stone to tether the horse while he made deliveries. This was in early fifties Toronto.

He had a leather shawl over his shoulder where he slung his block. Lugged it up stairs in the triple deckers. Had a dozen stops in the 50's within eyesight.
