The rest of the year, I wore hand-me-downs from cousins and dresses made from printed (flowers, animals etc.) feed sacks that I hated. They were indestructible! The first year, they were too big; the next year, just right and the 3rd year, too small. The 4th year, someone else was wearing them.
Would love to have one of those now

I got hand me downs from my older brothers. So new to me. We hated dressing up so we went to church then to grandma's, as soon as we got there we would take pictures then we could change into our play clothes

However I don't think I was permanently scarred by not having Easter outfits. We were Lutherans and not much into dressing elaborately for church anyway.

probably left over stock from Christmas.

Itchy wool - probably made of wool from allergic sheep.

Brown- in order to absorb MORE heat in a stifling church.

My parents revenge for me being "That Impossible Kid."

Might be the only time you got new clothes in a year. My brother sent me some old black and white photos the other day. I'm in the new dress, funky hat on hot dog curls, white gloves, and white patent leather shoes.

What I remember about those Easters is that the church was filled with hyacinths and smelled wonderful and after the service each kid got to take one home.

was 3 y.o. - white skirt, blouse, shoes, socks, hat and long white coat. After church, was taken to Grandmother's house where Dad's 6 siblings along with their families had gathered for dinner.
No one was paying attention so I wandered off; went under the house. That's where Granddad found me - playing in the coal pile. He took me to Grandmother. That is why I lived to later tell the story; they saved my life!
