(297,621 posts)Dominex Kovacs, a software engineer from Sacramento, California, almost defeated Jeopardy! champion Jamie Ding in an episode that aired on April 8, 2026. Kovacs took the lead late in the game by going all-in on Daily Doubles, but ultimately lost to Ding in Final Jeopardy. Kovacs has now opened up on Reddit about the experience, explaining his thought process and the highs and lows of the close match.

(297,621 posts)Longtime Jeopardy host Ken Jennings addressed fans on Friday, April 17, 2026, regarding the historic winning streak of contestant Jamie Ding, who has now secured 26 consecutive victories. Ding, a 33-year-old law student from New Jersey, has earned $732,000 as he approaches the all-time records held by show legends.
Jennings, who holds the record with a 74-game winning streak established in 2004, responded to questions about whether he is concerned that his long-standing achievement might finally be surpassed by the current champion. The host noted that a potential 75th victory by Ding would represent a milestone that has remained unbroken for over two decades.

(1,075 posts)Jamie is good but he's no James Holzhauer or Amy Schneider. Ken's record may never be broken.

(297,621 posts)During an in-studio conversation with audience members, shared on Jeopardy!'s TikTok page earlier this week, Jennings revealed what would happen if Ding bests his record.
"If he were to hypothetically win game No. 75, that would be a record that nobody's beaten for 20-odd years," Jennings said. "I would be very excited, actually. Are you imagining me getting more and more pissed with every game? 'If he wins, I'll eat my hat.'"

malaise
(297,621 posts)How does he feel? Slightly relieved.
"Yeah [I feel a sense of relief], just having some certainty," he told producer Sarah Whitcomb during a Jeopardy Substack interview shared on Wednesday. "Jeopardy, I guess, is kind of like baseball in theory. It could go on forever. You could just never, ever stop and that would be interesting but also, I mean, eventually I assumed that I would get tired."
Still, Ding admitted it's "bittersweet" to wrap up his time on the beloved game show.
"I certainly would have liked for it to go on longer. But on the other hand, I mean, I'm really lucky that it went on as long as it did," the bureaucrat and law student said. "And, I mean, I definitely caught some breaks along the way. So, every game was a gift."
Easy to like Jamie
