Holly hid under the bench, screaming bloody murder, and wouldn't come out, which, incidentally, is what she still does to this day (she's 15 now).

When the vet tech opened the door to come in, Martini took off running. She ran into the vet's private office, right past the office cat, came back out and ran all the way down the hall to the front desk with the vet tech and me in hot pursuit. The receptionist finally caught her and took her back to the exam room. These days, Martini just sits calmly in my lap.

In her younger days, she never quite got the concept of the "indoor cat." Every time I opened the front door, she would dash out, no matter how hard I tried to block her. It became a game to her. I would run after her and try to catch her and oh boy! Now we're playing! She especially liked to run away from me, then stop, and as soon as I bent down to pick her up, she'd take off again. It was worse when she got out at night because she's completely black on top and I couldn't see her. I remember going through the neighbors' bushes with a flashlight looking for her several times.

I put a board in front of the door that we had to step over. But the cat would run into when he tried to run out. It worked most of the time.
